    Server Admin Responsibility

I've always wondered about the issue of what is the responsibility of a server admin. I guess there are two ways of looking at this issue. Which one do you agree with and why? Also, are there any other views?

View 1 - The admins of a server pay money to run the server and therefore have the right to do whatever they want including kicking people out for any reason and/or expecting public (non-paying) players to adhere to rules that they themselves don't follow. (e.g. You get kicked if you punish an admin even if it was blatently their fault)

View 2 - Inviting people into your public server is like inviting people into your home. You wouldn't invite people into your home and them trip them and spill drinks on them because you have a responsibility to be a good host and go out of your way to show your guests a good time. Your responsibility as an admin is to make the game flow smoothly for your "guests" and not simply use the power you have to further your own little agenda.

Well, there they are. Which one is correct and what have I missed?

Not much difference between the two. It's View 2, and art of keeping the game flow smooth involves kicking people who are stopping the flow.

      Re: Server Admin Responsibility

I have been abused by admins before on certain servers. Not sure why except for the fact that they may be power trippin or maybe they have had a bad day, (i.e. job related, no sex from wife, getting owned by 12 yr olds...lol) They do pay for the servers, so I guess they have the right to abuse as they wish. The only thing is, that the ranked servers are tooooo expensive to be paying for an empty server. If the admins resort to View #1 then I just keep a list of those servers & never look back at that one again. There are too many good run servers out there to deal with the badly run ones. Rock On!

Experienced bf1942 communitys-clan servers are wiped out by newbie clans-game communitys with money to rent a ranked server.

To bad........... hopefully the players will find the server they liked with good admins on it and a lot of bad admind servers will go down after the hype.

I think an admin should follow their own rules.

If someone is causing trouble, if an admin sees something they don't like, and tell them. Then they do it again, KICK. Racism, KICK.

That's something we don't do on our server: we don't kick for getting owned. If you are a legit player (no cheating/exploting) and don't TK for vehicles and such. We don't care if you kill us repeatedly. That's the game.

But some servers have retards as admins. When you find a server like that, just make note of their website and let them know what happened. Or if it seems like they don't care, just make note of the name and never go back there.

            question for you all

how many times do you actually read the rules and abide by them? I'm taking the side of the server admins here.

If they specifically state rules on the load up screen, and you dont follow them "because thats not how you play" then i have no issues with you getting kicked. Our server has our rules posted. if you break certain issues you get three warnings in game (IE purposly tking to get a vehicle you "think" you deserve cause your just "that good", sry but vehicles are a first come first serve basis in our server.) That will get you kicked in our server. I dont have patience for people like that at all and i dont care how L33t you are with a certain vehicle.

Point farmers if caught will get a perm ban.. no warning. If i see the usual two-three people off in the corner somewhere i immediatly check their scores.. if they are farming instant ban. It states that on our load up screen. the only other time i will kick anyone is if there are more then a few people all complaining about a certain individual on the server. If one person is ruining the game for ump-teen other people, he/she is simply removed to make the gameplay better for the whole.

My clan pays good money for our server.. if we (and i mean my clan) dont have the space for our members we kick (usually the person with the lowest score, high ping, or sitting idle for too long)

one of our auto msgs that is plain for everyone to see:

"be respectful, you're here to have fun, so is everyone else... smacktards will be dealt with by an admin"

if you cant follow that then its really not my problem its yours.

If some one pays for a server they can do what they want on it but he admins that kick people for stupid little reasons will sooner or later be paying for a server no 1 plays on

I agree that rules are there to be followed. But many times admins are not following their rules. I went with my team mate to one of Multiplay clan servers - there is a rule "no spawn killing on uncappable bases". And guess what? Admin from clan first send kick/ban warning to one of the guys who is in helicopter raping USA carrier and 3 minutes after that two clan members (including admin) are doing the same thing - raping carrier. We were asking many times "what are you doing - it is against your rules". Never get any answer.
