If knife/pistol is unfair are City map only servers fine?

I am wondering what people think about the topic. EA is shutting down pistol/knife and only weapon controlled servers. However there are servers up for 24/7 Karkand/Mursaat city/Sharqi. Are these servers fair as well since people believe that the most points can be racked on them?

Personally I think so because my highest round came from riding in the back of a blackhawk on Shanghi Stalemate. I think most of the maps can merit solid rounds. The only map I have ever had an issue with is the Oilfield one where the US is on the carrier and there is a ton of armor running around.

Yes...EA is tripping on ranked servers that change the gameplay.

I think city-maps only is absolutely fine. EA made it possible to create your own maplist, and taking advantage of that feature shouldn't get you punished. Quite unlike pistol/knife servers, as there is no implementation of a restriction to weapons that can be used.

I don't see it as a problem, as SaladFork said, EA made it possible to create your own maplist. It's not changing anything, the maps are still the same, tickets still the same, it just doesn't play all the maps...

Agree here with Saladfork and Scoobing. Any map is fine in any rotation you like, or as have many servers done, run a single map continuously or run only urban city maps all the time. Doing this without changing any other things is fine as everybody gets treated equally and in a fair manner.

in all reality these "knive/pistol" ranked servers are also not restrictive as to what weapons you can use. All the carbines, shotguns, and explosives are there free to draw upon. What is the real concern is that the moderation of these ranked servers kicks those who choose to use these weapons. If no administrator is present, anyone can use any weapon but EA has said it won't tolerate the strict administration of "only knives, pistols, and paddles". This type of server has proved to be quite popular with "grey-area padders" as opposed to the blatant "two opposing players from the same clan kill/revive another for points as one resupplies" that can be found anywhere.

Since it is almost impossible to find these blatant padders without constant administration on ALL ranked servers it seems like EA has gone for the relatively easy targets in the grey-area.

Map rotation has no effect upon how the game is played, it simply changes the location, just as an all MEC-USMC server would (which is incedentally all those popular city maps). These strictly enforced "knife/pistol" servers DO actively change how the game is played are are by all means welcome to add to the variety and challenge of BF2. However, they should be relegated to non-ranked servers so the relative fungibility of the "point system" is retained. (ie. one point on one server is equal to one point on another)

I've gotten plenty of points on any map I play. These maps are the infantry maps. Some people like to fight gun to gun rather than running around a huge map just to meet a tank.

offcourse city maps only are fine, maybe you can score better on those maps, but they are just better and more fun to play.

And playing on a city map doesn't mean you will have a good score, you still have to play good, also other maps if you play good, you can score very nice.
For example

on kubra dam, I always get good scores, even got 94 points out of it.
Same for fushe pass, got 90 points out of it
dragon valey, got more then 100 points out of it

etc...

Just play the map as it suposd to be played and you will score good, the city maps are more fun because it's real close combat there
