BF2 keeps crashing

Hey all

I have been playing bf2 since day 1 and I havent had a problem till now. I just formatted my hd today and I re-installed bf2 and the patch 1.02. I can only play bf2 for 5 mins tops before my computer reboots or crashes to the desktop. It even crashes while loading a map sometimes. I have tried a few different video card drivers to no avail. What video card drivers should I be using for a 9700 radeon pro? the ones I was using before do not work . I have no idea what is wrong and would appreciate any help.

My computer looks like this

Amd athlon 3000
Radeon 9700 pro
1 gig of ddr ram
asus a7n8x motherboard

Motherboard chipset drivers and sound drivers are very important in gaming. If you didn't update or install the latest versions, you may solve your problem by installing them.

How do you mean, formatted your disc ? did you reinstall your windows, or did you format a partition where BF2 was on ?

In the last case, when you formatted the partition where BF2 was on, but did nothing to windows, did you first uninstall the game from your software list?? If not, there is your problem because to windows, BF2 was still in the program list, when you reinstall the game then, you can have serious problems.

If you reinstalled windows,did you install the service packs also ?? because BF2 needs the service packs.

What exactly have you done ??

ok I deleted the partion where bf2 was (C drive)and then formatted C: and then installed windows with service pack 2. Installed bf2 and the patch 1.02.. does that help?

OK, so there is a fresh win installation with the service packs.
Normaly If I remember corectly, in service pack 2 , you automaticly get Directx 9c , so this isn't the problem (but sheck it anyway).

Have you installed the same videodrivers for your card then you used before the fresh win install ?? If so, this isn't the problem.

Can you give some more info about your system, mobo, cpu, chipset, ....

As said here before, you also need to install your mobo drivers, normaly this wouldn't effect your games, but you never know.

DO other games work actualy ??

-cpu is an amd athlon 3000+
-mobo is a ASUS a7n8x.. I use the nforce drivers for this.. before the fresh install I was using nforce 5.10 and now I am using nforce 6.66.. neither work.
-vid card is a radeon 9700 pro and I tried my old drivers and the new ones.. neither work

No idea what my chipset is.. how do I find that out?

during my short period of time that I can actually play I asked in the game for help and someone said it could be my refresh rate? not sure exactly what that is?
I dont have any other games installed.. I will try single player mode in bf2 see if I still crash

ya it crashes in single player mode as well

Why did you reinstall windows?
Did you set your "virtual memory" size in windows?
Do you crash mostly on entering map set up?
Have you updated your BIOS?
What set up of RAM have you got?
How many sticks?
All Manufacturers make and model plz?

refresh rate of your monitor.

Go in BF2 to the videosettings, there where you can change the resolution, and next or under it there stand for example 60Hz . Try to pick the same resolution you are using now, but with a lower refresh rate, problem you have could be that your refresh rate is to high (like 80 on 1240*1024).

In the specs of your vid card, you will find what the max and/or good refreshrate is on a certain resolution
