I'm also nearing Corporal myself and am in the same situation.
However i mostly play Medic and Engineer. The Medic rifle was my first unlock and the Engineer was gonna be my second but have heard reports that the shotgun isn't that good.
Can someone please confirm or deny these rumours.

I too unlocked the spec ops gun first but not sure what to punt for next..think it's between the medic and sniper unlocks. These are my most commonly used classes. I have tried both guns out briefly in the demo sp. The standard guns for the medic are good but the unlock is a bit more accurate and is better at long range though not as powerful so I suppose it depends upon how much you are 'in the mix' or like to hang back. The M95 is a bit of a beast but the only reason I would get it is to use in place of the MEC and Chinese sniper rifles as I like/prefer the standard US load out of the M24. Dunno if this helps or not....srry. Oh i did also think about the pkm but i don't play support a lot as I prefer accuracy and mobility to 'armour and big gun'...just my opinion:)Comment

The PKM isn't so hot, I guess you have to be a low ping bastard to get more than one kill with the thing (spawn camping doesn't count), plus the other guy has to be a complete boob and not know how to aim, it just has this total random/luck feel to it.
A lot of the unlocks aren’t any better than the default ones, some are actually worse. You’re use to using iron sights you would probably do well with the assault unlock, though it’s not as accurate as the base weapons it packs quite a punch.Comment

what about the DAO?? is that any good?..i mean i like being anti tank the rocket launcher for it is VERY useful..it can snipe out players and hit anything else..comes in handy ANYTIME.Comment

ok...well i saw a post that u go into a file in bf2 and u change the 0's to 1's and i changed every single 0 to 1 and nothing happened..do u have to restart your comp or what?? and he said to go in D:Spel<<wtf file is that?? i went into c programs ea games folder python bf2 stats and i opening the unlocks thing in word pad and i changed them all to 1 but nothing..anyone help with this?Comment
