Once I hit a team mate with a smoke grenade and got team damage, was never able to do it again.

Same thing happened in DC. It's because of how kills are calculated. The last thing to hit a vehicle before it blows up is credited with the kill. No matter what weapon it is. If a vehicle is on fire and about to explode and you hit it with the smoke grenade(a weapon as far as the game cares) after which the vehciles finally blows up without anything else hitting it, the smoke will get the credit.

You don't see it much because the odds just aren't in it's favor. I mean really - who throws a smoke grenade on top of a burning tank?

quite a bit, if i chucked a smoke grenade at your face it would hurt. then it would go 'poof' and it would look like you farted in fear, increasing the embarasment.

In BF2 however, very little.
