Hey I was just wondering, quick question:
Is a ATi Radeon 9700 Pro a good graphics card? I think it is but I'm not sure :hmm:

well, i used to have a nvidia 6800 GT, but had to sell it 'cause of money restraints (damn it!). Now i have my old GeForce FX 5200 again.....i miss it so much

Its a decent card, will run the game pretty well with everything on low, maybe some on medium.

But I'm in the same boat as Blackangel, FX5200... Barely gets the job done, struggles when explosion effect comes in play...

That's kind of a broad question, but yes the 9700 pro is a pretty good card (it was the best a few years ago). It will run BF2 decently if thats what you want to know, although you won't be able to turn everything up very far. They don't make the 9700 pro anymore so you may have a hard time finding it.

You can run the game on medium settings @ 1024x768. Expect about 30-60 fps.

Good for it's time. Would play battlefield though. If your purchasing one I would not recommend paying more than $150 US dollars. I run a 9800 pro ( AMD XP 2400 @ 2.35 GHZ) and play at 1600*1200 medium to low settings.

Wow, that bad huh? Well, I guess it's time for a little update then. I wanna be prepared for Call of Duty II. I run everything on medium with it and have no problem. Hell, I have High on Texture and there seems to be a good FPS rate.

Some people I find have strange definitions for smooth play.

Most of the people that replyed are wrong, it entirely depends on the rest of your computer.

If you have 1gb ram, and the recomended CPU you can run it on high, more likely medium

If you have 2gb ram and recomended CPU you could probably run it on highest.

If you have 512ram and minimum CPU, or 1gb ram and minimum CPU or recomended CPU and 512ram, or minumum on both, you will probably be able to run it on low, or possibly medium...

I have a 9500/9700 PRO with 1gbram, and 2800+ 64 bit processor, and I run it smoothly on High settings.

It entirely depends on the rest of your computer.

I have a 9700 pro with a Pen 4 2.53 GHZ 1.24 gig of ram and i run ATI tool. In addition, my case is open with a powerful house fan blowing on the video card. It ain't pretty, but it works. All settings are on high

They did... FX5200 is the minimum from Nvd.
For sure u should check the readme file in ur game dir. there's a descrpt. of minimums.

and yet you still do not define smoothly
I very much doubt you get over 30 fps per second
probably less with that graphics card on high, even medium
did you check a real test?

I have a 9800 pro on my 3rd sysetm in my LAN
with a P4 2.0 ghz - 512 ram
and we get 45 fps with all on medium to low settings
(ram by the way has NO effect on IN GAME FPS)

if you are asking to BUY a 9700
do not - unless it is almost free
check "www.pricewatch.com" for current prices
for $150 - you can get a 9800 pro
or something even better

your frame rate MUST be low
I have a P4 3.2Ghz with X800KL
and have most settings on MED/HIGH
and shadows/dynamic lights off
and get 60 fps
I think 30 is the minimum, but 60-80 . . .
well score went way up per game
(maybe just getting better, but got better because I adjusted the frame rates)

ps
also use a house fan on opened case on 3rd system
which has the 9800 pro

That is funny. I am running the same thing. OC'ed 9800pro with house fan for help. Works well but i keep the fan around just in case. I run all medium and no Dynamics. Why make the card do something it doesn't have too
