90% of us should use the Cable/256K setting unless you truly are on a dedicated branch. The performance could go south if set too high. On my 4MB Cable line, I use the Cable/256K setting with much better results.
Yes, your ping is located on the scoreboard, it usually the very last number next to your name.
Use the Cable 256 settings. I have a 5mbps connection so I have tried the T1 connection setting, but I find that the Cable256 gives me a more accurate ping to servers from the in-game browser.
