Looking at getting Joystick for Flying

Well, i enjoy flying the F-15's and most of the Planes, and everyone is saying that it is possibly worth getting a Joystick for flying the planes better.

Basically flying gives me the most kills, and i enjoy doing it, and it is the main thing i do, so im looking to get the best i can at it.. Will a Joystick help me achieve this?

What are the advantages there are with getting Joystick and flying, and whats a good brand / type of Joystick to get

Hi, just to warn you i thought the very same thing, but after much practice with a joystick, i still go back to flying with a mouse. I'm not claiming to be a godlike pilot but i can hold my own against most people and found the only advantage over mouse was having the abilty to do continuous turns without having to keep moving the mouse, but how often do you do that, against another skilled pilot being in a constant turn is asking to be gunned down IMHO. Besides a mouse is a very adaptable things in the hands of an experienced FPS gamer.

I said i played with the mouse only, well thats not strictly true, I still use the throttle on the joystick (what a waste  ) as its easy to go into hover in the harrier and also to land all the planes without without losing control or crashing.

If you are going to get one, i did some research first and the Saitek Cyborg joysticks seem to be popular and that what i went for, even though i use it in such a limited way now

Dont get anything from Saitek, they are evil. Logitech makes awesome joysticks, my personal favorite is this one:

Discover the innovative world of Logitech United States and shop everything MX, Mechanical Keyboards, Wireless Mice, Webcams, Headsets, Software, and more

Care to explain why they are evil? not for me because as i said i dont use it but at least explain why you have that opinion? or else its just another AMD or INTEL thread where everyone just recommends what they themselves own :)

When i looked around generally people said the logitech and saitek were very similar to use, just the design differed. The selling point to me was they are very adjustable (hat switches and all top buttons can be moved on an adjuster mechanism) and as a bonus have the adjustable hand rest because i have quite small hands

Id go for a simple microsoft sidewinder. Most of the joysticks are the same however the sidewinder is very comapatable and easy to format.

I was in the same situation as you about a month ago. I went ahead and bought a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro. It was recommended by many forum members, and I knew it worked on BF2. Also, since I'm not a big-time flight simulator fanatic, I didn't bother getting the $100+ joysticks. This one was VERY reasonably priced, and has yet to let me down in any way.

The response and control that a joystick gives you can never be achieved by an ordinary mouse. I'm sure there are mice out there that can parallel a low-end joystick, but at the end of the day, joysticks win.

When flying co-pilot in a jet, it quickly becomes apparent whether they use a joystick or mouse.

I have exact same joystick. I use to fly with Mouse and KB for years. I got a joystick just to see if it was worth it and it was. I can hover alot easier and I have better control with multiple buttons right at my fingertips.

One I HIGHLY recommend is the Saitek Cyborg 2000. It has great adjustability and is very easy to setup. What really tips the scale about this joystick is the comfort! It has a very genuine type of hand rest which is perfect for the extreme fighter, because after a while, your hand can get tired, but not on this joystick.

Check it out (google it) or http://www.joy-stick.net/reviews/joy...cyborg2000.htm

For $30, I don't htink it gets much better than that.

nothing like a great big glowing phallus on your desk to be the envy of all your friends, plus it really opens up the realm of flight simming to you with fine throttle control and a million buttons :)

a great upgrade path if you are thinking about computer flying more
