I hit Sgt. last night.
I had 25,250 or so. Wondered why I hadn't ranked up earlier.
I logged off, came back in and my first point got the promotion.
Once you hit the number limit, leave, come back and you should get the promotion.
It then took 15-20 minutes for the promotion to show up on my BFHQ though.
