Im probably wrong but dont flame me.

Ok if you go to Start>Run>Type in cmd>hit enter, a command prompt comes up. In this command prompt you type ipconfig/help and it part of it has

i selected those two commands because it seems to make my browsing and my online gaming better. I just type in ipconfig/flushdns then ipconfig/registerdns . Im not sure if I am atcually helping my self by doing this but it seems to help. Just give it a try if your lagging online and you know its not your pc's performance.

Flushing your DNS entries every once in a while (about once or twice a year) gets rid of old IP addys and domains that are stored in your PCs DNS cache. After flushing, it will refil with current information and therefore seem faster. The reason it is somewhat faster browsing is because the PC doesn't have to wade through obsolete entiries to connect.

Actually clearing the Local DNS should slow IP resolution down on first load of website because websites IP is no longer in your Local DNS Client Cache.

The entries contained in your Local DNS Client Cache has a lifespan, called TTL, time to live. When this expires, the IP of a website you have visited is no longer in your cache and DNS Client will ask your ISP DNS server again or wherever you lookup DNS.

So it really shouldn't be needed to flushdns unless it is in a Windows Server Active Directory environment and there are changes made or if a website has a change of host or similar. Even then administrators and webmasters will ahead of time configure TTL to be shorter when they know they will make an IP or DNS change, e.g. if a website has a TTL of 3 days, then 3 days before you need to make a move or change to website you change TTL to something lower e.g. 5 mins and then users will max have to wait 5 mins until the change is apparent.

Instead of using ipconfig you can also just right-click on LAN connection or what connection you have and select Repair it does this (and more).

Yes, it will slow down your first loading of websites and a few applications that connect to the internet at first. Also, I must state that I doubt this flush procedure will have any impact on BF2 because the game mostly uses UDP protocol.
