Why are the scopes in bf2 so plain?

I have noticed the same thing...but I would prefer function over form in a game like BF.

It nicely blacks out everything it needs to without being distracting. Also, Im sure performance is better with a simpler scope.

I like 'em plain. Not as distracting, altough i'm rarely looking down the scope for too long.

The united Offensive scopes are excellent, dirty and grimy and move around like a b*tch...so its harder to snipe but almost a certain kill when you hit em.

The 1942 ones where a bit grimy, but unnaturally still.

Does the sniper in Bf2 clean his rifle every second? how does it stay so clean?

Simple. It removes all the distracting elements.

Most of the time now when you have a scope, like on a sniper rifle or the Spec Ops weapons, you would put caps on either ends of the scope, over the lenses to keep them clean. Thus making them clean for combat. And yes they do clean them alot, though not every second. Though the look of grim makes it look better.
