This isn't an issue of "waagh I didn't get my kill," not entirely at least. It is an issue about making a player commit to their decision to use heavy equipment, just like you commit to your kit in the first place. Things like the tanks, attack helos, and jets (and the BH as it is now, but that is another issue just like C4) are basically 'overkits' you pick after you spawn instead of before because of how potent they are, so what is being proposed is that you should have to make some sort of commitment to them. There will be no difference in the game's 'arcady' feel, unless you think a game like Halo or Planetside is a sim.
    Nicely put.

      Re: Like tanks? Die.

as a tanker, I would also like to see some sort of time requirement for getting into and out of vehicles. why would a tanker want to see this requirement??? simple. because it drives me nuts when I get killed when an anti-tanker in an apc drives up, hits me with two rockets, then just as I'm about to blow him up he jumps out and gets me with a at rocket. and otherwise I hate seeing people bail out of a dying vehicle and sprint into nearby coverage before i can get the killing hit in.

I certainly agree with "you got to take the bad (ie trapped in a tank) with the good (you're invincible to small arms fire & have really powerful weapons)". this is just like Halo 2 with the "insta-switch" ******** with the Energy Sword - the whole point of the sword is you can't fight at a range, it totally defeats the point if you can use your other weapon like normal then insta-switch to your sword for melee.

as a side note i'll bitch about what i thought this thread was going to be about - people leaving their vehicles scattered all over the map, not necessarily when they've taken heavy damage. i want to SCREAM when i see an ally jump out of the tank after taking one light hit, only to see the enemy jump right in and drive off. way to go douchebag, why did you grab the vehicle if you were going to use it for 10 seconds???? GRRRRR

so yeah, bottom line is that I'd like to see a timer for at least getting out of vehicles. and it would also be cool if there was an eject animation for air vehicles

I don't want tank users to die. I like you guys - you support me when I am advancing, and you provide big, juicy targets that distract the enemy away from me. But I do think that in exchange for the power granted upon you by that armored shell and powerful gun, you should be committed to your machine till death do you part. Or, at the very least, it should take longer for you to get a divorce.

        Here's my issue:
I think it's total bullsh1t that someone can roll around in a tank shooting everyone up, and then when the tank gets sufficiently damaged or starts burning, they can just hop out in a microsecond and run off.

Put simply, it should take TIME to get out of larger vehicles, especially ones where you're nestled inside a cramped cockpit with only a small hole above you for exit.

You want the powers of the tank, you oughta commit.

I don't think the same delay should necessarily apply to the transport vehicles, since you could conceivably roll out of an open door. Airplanes have ejector seats. Attack helicopters, well... your head oughta be minced, but that's another thread.

While we're at it, how about you have to spend money to take a course in real life to qualify as a 'virtual tank commander' or a 'virtual pilot'. These courses will last 4 years, because BF2 is realistic, and thus, everything we do concerning BF2 must be realistic too.

        Not.

As stated before, it's not a suggestion to make things realistic. It's a suggestion to balance out the power of armor.

                Yawn.

You think 1-2 seconds for an animation is going to balance the power of armor? Do you smoke a lot of crack or something?

Hell, the animations in PlanetSide really make no difference whatsoever. Besides, people would adjust to a waiting period to enter/exit vehicles and still escape certain death.

This game is not a freakin' simulation, get over it.

The way the game allows you to enter or exit a vehicle is fine with me as it is. The speed and flow of the game would be interupted if there were a delay or time penalty for entering some vehicles. I do thing points should be awarded for disabling and or destroying a vehicle. I'm sure jet pilots would love that.

I like this idea. No more insta-bailing outs of a tank to another. And the funny thing about this thread is that the starter allways wins every argument what the whiners make.

You and your idea rocks man.

                        Re: Like tanks? Die.

Armor is balanced. If you guys are having problems taking down tanks you need to find another game to play PERIOD, like maybe Tetris or the Sims.

This is a post about some guy not getting a kill because some dude jumped out of a tank too fast. Said first guy is ****ed because he worked over the tank and gets nothing out of it. This post is stupid.

I totally agree with this guys point. Its not that easy to just pop out of a tank. Its not like there is a car door on it you can swing open. There should be some lag time just to help with the realism of the game. But what can you do, you can fix a tank to 100% with a wrench on any part of the tank so its all good I guess. I dont have too many gripes about the game except for the punish noobs that have no clue that they can not run in front of a teamates grenades!

I understand your point. It would be "nice" but it is not plausable. Why: It would take too long to get in and out if you had to lets say physically jump in and out. No one would like it, including me.
