Unable to connect to account server

URGENT HELP NEEDED!!!!

My friend got battlefield 2 last week, loved the look of it and even made myself a player on his. Bought it myself on yesterday and when i tried to log in the 'connecting to account server' screen stayed on and wouldn't connect.

I have 2meg broadband and nothing else was running. I downloaded the patch and still nothing. I un-installed and re-installed and once out of about 20 it connected but then only about 20 servers came up and everyone I tried to connect to came up something about having a modifed version and went back to the menu screen.

All help needed as I really need to play this game.

P.S I am really dumb so try to keep it simple.

Is the message "This server only allows players with unmodified content to join"?
Or is it your account you can not connect to?

Are you patched to version 1.02? This will bring your BF2 Client version to v.1.1.2484.0.
You need to "tick" the correct boxes in game (in options) to join servers that are of the same version as you.

Have put the patch on. That is the message but it has only came up once as I have only managed to connect to account server once.

IMHO i would do a full uninstall of the game files PB and patch, follow the instructions "fully" it is a tried and tested method by others and will be quicker for you in the long run as by now your files may be well mixed up. link to how to >>> http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18709

I have the same problem but it started happening when i updated to v1.02 any ideas???
