Plane co-pilot question

I have been spending my time trying to master the chopper - so I am relatively new to the planes...please forgive my ignorance. Also - did not find this on another topic - sorry if it is a re-post.

Last night I got in as the co-pilot/bomber in a jet. I was wondering - when I got the "I got lock on" when I designated a tank - does that help my pilot hit that target? It did seem like every time my lil fella yelled that out - my pilot would get a kill - just making sure that was not coincidence. My pilot was awesome - but I do not think he spoke english - or at least did not read team chat. I never got a response from him as to how this worked.

Am I designating for him? Or does that lock somehow help me and my missles/bombs whatever they are.

They seem like they are lazer guided from where ever my cursor is - but I do not have them down that is for sure. Unlike the fire and click to redirect for the hellfire on the chopper - the bombs/missles on the plane seem to be dynamically guided to my cursor - no click and hold or anything like that.

Am I way off track?

you're off some whats going on is that when he's flying and bombing he gets a box circle or triangle to tell him where enemy vehicles are so probably what is happening is you're locking onto a target which he has already started a bomb run on and thats why

when you lock on to a target thats for your missiles because what you're controling are the AGMs the problem is that most pilots could care less about their co pilot so they use the thrust when they shouldn't and you can't get a good lock keep working with it and when you get a lock fire and eventually you'll learn when to fire and when not to

If you have a lock, and release the missile while it is locked, you can be pretty sure it hits... Unless it is a friendly, in that case the missile doesn't hit (at least for me). Yes, you can lock on friendlies and you usually won't see if it's enemy or friendly until you fire a missile\it's too late to fire a missile.

sometimes you get a lock and you're already over it and the missile can't hit

I knew it was not his lock - because it shows my name saying "I have a lock" and my indicator over that target gets larger...plus the fact that I was aiming to the side of the aircraft - not out the nose where the pilot could see.

I never saw a friendly get locked on - but I was not doing it for that long. You just see the different enemies in brackets - if you focus on a set of brackets for a couple seconds you get a lock.

Guess I need to team up with another good pilot and have another go at it. Seemed like it could be a VERY good combination.

it's quite effective if you have the right pilot those things are like kick ass hellfires you can't miss once they're locked and it's a 1 shot kill on any vehicle

those laser guided missles really suck, it is almost impossible to hit the target with then unless the pilot cooperates with you and dont killl the enemy before your nose...

the pilots hud displays enemy vehicles as squares or triangles so he knows where to bomb/straf (it can also show friendlies which is an annoying as hel bug) but usually the pilot will come in straight at thte target...the drawback to being co pilot is you see the targets a lot later than the pilot so try to aim at a target that isnt it his bombing path, lock the missiles on and fire itll speed straight towards the target and believe me it will blow anything up cos they're so dam powerful...you can fire them without a lock and sort of control them by moving the aimer around but is harder to get kills that way...can annihalate a group of infantry tho

yeah, the WSO position is a tough job because you're at the mercy of the pilot..

If you've got a good pilot, and you're working together as a team.. he's lining up runs for you, keeping his speed at optimal to give you the time to aquire and lock on to targets, etc.. then you're going to do some serious damage to the enemy.

On the other hand, if the pilot is an idiot and not being a team player, the WSO is basically just along for the ride.. speaking of which, anyone else hate being in the backseat when you hear a lock tone on your aircraft and all you can do is sit there while the pilot tries to evade? I always hold my breath when that happens, lol..

You could always bail. :p
The laser guided is not so guided, the lock ons are independent of the pilot and some times what you lock on too. :cry:
If you can get a pilot to work with the co-pilot you would be the terrors of the sky. :evil:

Yes, you can lock on friendlies and you usually won't see if it's enemy or friendly until you fire a missile\it's too late to fire a missile.

They don't lock onto friendlies.

Im a copilots dream pilot, I never bomb unless I see a cluster of enemies and need to drop 5 bombs to clear it out, I slow down just enough and line up with the target, I fly at a mid. height as to give the copilot the best shot.


I have 790 driver score and they are all in the bomber, I am usually near the middle of the score board at round end but my copilot is usually in the top 3... I am not greedy at all... he has the most accurate munition so there is no need more of the time for me to drop. I dont believe in wasting 5 bombs on a single target unless I have no co pilot.


I also always land when we have half health but thats a diff story for a diff time

if youre wondering why you missiles are locking but not hitting it could be because theres trees in the way, you have to have a completely clear view of the vehicle with no obstructions to hit it
