    Freeze/lag PROBLEM SOLVED: BF2 REQUIRES 2GIGS

Like many people I was struggling with the stutter HD lag prevalent in BF2 at high res/large maps. I broke down and ordered another gig of RAM (512 X 4) and VOILA, now I can play!

Yee I agree. I used to play with 640mb of PC 2700 RAM and would experience studders. I recently purchased 4 x 512MB sticks of pC3200 for Dual channel goodness :)

2GB of Dual Channel ram knocks bf2's socks off...especially since I turned off my virtual memory :)

I monitor my memory usage on an external display while I'm playing. My 1 Gig of memory has never used more than 900Mb in BF2. This is with max settings, but with medium textures.

It's not worth $150 to run high textures in my opinion.

I have a gig of ram as well and have not seen it go much higher than 900ish. I do get some initial lag at the start of a map that lasts about 2-5 seconds but goes away and runs smooth the rest of the time. A gig is plenty for my system. I suppose that another gig might eliminate that 2-5 second studder at the beginning but thast not worth my money.

I agree. 2 gigs did the trick for me as well. BF2 runs like butta now.

I new there'd be people saying "mine runs fine with 64k" (lol) But mine was UNPLAYABLE with 1 gig even at medium settings And I have an otherwise decent machine (ASUS A8V Dlx, AMD64 3000, 6800 Gamer vid card) It was obvious that it was a memory problem because the HD light would go solid (not just blinking, solid) and the game would freeze for 5-7 seconds (whereupon I'd promptly get blown away or fly into a mountain) every time I'd move into a new area on the map.

            All betta now, momma!

              I stronly disagree

512mb RAM here, smooth as silk, 30-50 fps steady.

1Gig is more than enough. If you struggled with 1gig you must have had 50 processes running or something?

Yeah it helps to close all non essential programs and to ctrl-alt-del and get rid of unnecessary processes....the BF2 manual actually discusses this procedure

but regardless more ram is always better for everything not just BF2 :)

If I'm not mistaken the application will scale to how much memory you have.

If you put another gig in then you will see it using more.

512 ran on above max settings no graphical lag at all untill went to college (go RIT) and they made everyone put on service pack 2 and download all the window updates. Now I wish I could get a gun hunt down bill gates and mame him for life for what he did.

lol, thats ur solution. buy more ram. i have 1 gig and its fine. most people dont have money to shell out for new ram. like i am going to read ur post and say, THATS IT!!! then buy it that second. dont think so.

very strange how people say all this, 1gig runs rubbish, 512mb runs uber...

I have an Athlon XP 3000+ and an AGP 6600GT

My brother has an Athlon 64 3200+ and a PCIe 6600GT

We both went from 512mb to 1Gig and were very, very happy with the performance leap. I think in terms of frames per 'buck' 1Gig is the sweet spot.

Geeez i bet it takes for ever to load a map for you. By the time you get into the game half the flags are capped, lmao.

No offense, but how is getting 2 gigs solving the problem? That's just even MORE money down the drain... heck, I've already spent $350+ on my X800 XL.

That's like saying: "LOW FPS PROBLEM SOLVED: BF2 REQUIRES A HIGH END VIDEO CARD!".
