What is a memory leak?

I read bout this issue with the patch that they released but i dont know what a memory leak is. Could someone explain it? Would it have anything to do with BF2 sporadically crashing to the desktop sometimes?

It's when your brain gets full, so in order to learn something new, something old has to "leak" out.

But seriously... I believe a memory leak is when an application does not release system memory back to the system when you close it. This means the memory it was using is unable to be used by anything else since the system thinks it's still in use.

a bug in a program that prevents it from freeing discarded memory and causes it to use increasing amounts of memory.hence memory leak ..
free it up = stable program . or atleast more stable that it was with the memLeak .

Does the BF2 editor suffer from memory leaks? or is just designed to take 1.2 gigs of ram.

Hmm, I would have thought that someone would have told bigbay82 that there is no memory leak with the 1.02 patch. There was one with the 1.01 patch and it was only on the servers that the leak was found.

I'm afraid the CTD is probably something else but if still ofgten a memory problem all the same.

there is still q memory leak, on client side and EA knows about it.

I have a problem with it, when I start up BF2 i have like 50 to 80 Fps, and memory usage of about 750 to 850Mb , after playing for 2 hurs or sometimes less or more, I get 10 to 15 Fps and memory usage of BF2 is about 1.3 gig!!!

Lots od people have fps drop when playing for an amount of time, but some just don't notice it bacause it isn't much, but not all have the problem.


Memory leak is when a program uses a certain amount of memory, then some of the memory isn't used anymore but the program doesn't give it away so it takes new memory in, this results in using more and more memory.

But when closing the program, in this case BF2 , windows will flush your memory and it becomes available again.

Thanks guys, I did know that they claimed they fixed it with the newest patch. Actually i never got the patch that had the memory leak, but i was still curious about what it was.
