    Menu screen/in Game super slowdowns

    Hi all,

New poster here...I'm trying to find if anyone has had the problems I am having. What happens is this:

I run the game, starts up fine, get past the EA and DICE logos fine, the opening scene is fine. Then boom, you hit esc to get to the main account screen and main menu and it slows right down. Like so slow that you can't even click on the login button. The mouse cursor is fine, but everything else is slow. The silohuettes in the background of tanks and such are all moving at like 1fps. I can reboot and start the game and sometimes it runs normal, but 9 times out of 10 it's just slow like this and unplayable.

I know it's not my hardware, because when it works, it works really well, but that is rare.

If it will help, my system is:
    DFI UT NForce4 mobo
    Athlon 64 3200+ Venice core
    2 GB PC3200 ram
    200GB sata seagate hdd
    Asus X800XL 256mb vid card
    onboard sound

Has anyone else experienced this and how did you fix it? I have even tried turning off all unecessary background programs as well, with still no luck.

    anyone?

Have you installed the hotfix patch and punkbuster before you tried to play?
You need to before starting the game.

If by hotfix patch you mean 1.02 then yes. As far as punkbuster goes, is there an update to it as well?

I'm at work, so I can't really try this out right now. But I'm wondering, do you really think that updating punkbuster will help speed things up? I can't see it being related to the GUI being slow as well.

            In a word, No.
But i guess that you have some experience with PC's the way you are communicating, so you will understand that it is as simple as a one word answer. It could be several things causing the issue.
Sorry but you have to start with the basics to sort a problem out especially when communicating with someone you don't know from whatever country.

The EA 1.02 patch (hot fix) was designed to filter out the freeze or lag, as you are experiencing. I was unclear as to know if you had uninsatalled any trace of the demo you might have had installed on your Hard drive and if you had done a full reinstall of the BF2 game before we started on other software running your hardware.

Vid / Graphic card drivers what ones are you using and did you do a clean install of them wiping all traces of the old ones?

Have you set your bios correctly for the running of your memory also have you set your virtual memory in accordance with the RAM you have on board as both will slow your program down to a stand still if not set correctly.

Edit............. ATI and EA suggest that the Radion 5.8 drivers should be installed to run the game.

Re: Menu screen/in Game super slowdowns

As far as the Demo, I never had the demo, so that is out of the picture. I have tried a full re-install of the BF2 game, wiped out all the empty program files, all the files in my documents and settings, and even searched the registry. Still the same thing. The worst part is, it is a really hard thing to explain...it's just weird that intro videos are fine...smooth as glass, then as soon as you hit the "esc" kit and get the "Welcome to Duty Soldier" lady voice, it drops down to a crawl. BUT! It is only sometimes, well most of the time I should say.

I have tried 3 different video drivers, the ones that came with the card, the ATI 5.8 cats and the newest Omega drivers. All the same results. Memory timings are all stock speeds, virtual memory is also left to the defaults. This problem came about all of a sudden, so it must be something that was changed on my system, but I really cannot think of what that could be.

I have uninstalled all recently installed programs, and killed all background processes to no avail. I hate to say it, but I reallly think I might just have to resort to re-formatting my drive and re-installing windows Unless of course you can think of anything else it might be?

Re: Menu screen/in Game super slowdowns

Ok to save you from spending / wasting a good 6 hours on an OS reinstall and probably still get the same problem have a go at working your way through these links m8.
If they work for you plz bump link to help others.
I have had similar problems as you and I'm sure you can work them out.
These are not in any order and some of the info "will" be duplicated, try to look into and behind the small print. I know the weekend is upon you so you will have loads of time to find a fix, ay m8?
Yes, I know i'm blowing my own trumpet but again they are the next step that will lead to a more isolated answer if they don't work (the next step) and wont harm your pc, if you think they might, create a sys restore point.
