Why does my game always crash?

I have been playing BF2 for a while now and I am becoming more frustrated every time I play. It crashes to desktop every time I play at irregular intervals.
I have a Pentium 4 3.2ghz, a gig of ram, a nvidia 6800gt, tons of free mem. my psu is 500w. i also have a thermal take case with no heating probs. I have the the 1.02 patch and regularly update punkbuster. I have tried the graphic settings at all settings to no avail. I have found that this crashing also happens in other games occasionally too. No error message is displayed, the game is perfect one minute, to desktop the next. I previously had a ati 9550 and it did it to that too.

BF2 is very sensitive to problems with hardware. I've seen that on several systems. I recommend that you first go into your BIOS and increase the voltage to your memory and CPU just a little bit. Most motherboards will allow you to do this. Say that your DDR memory is now running at 2.6V. Try increasing it to 2.7V. I'm not shure about your CPU but I would guess about 1.5V. You could try to increase to about 1.55. You could try the memory first and see how that works out then if it doesn't help change the CPU. Try downloading a program called Prime95. It's a test that really stresses your CPU and memory. Go to options and select torture test. If it runs the first 5 tests successfully then click on Test and select stop. If you got an unstable system Prime95 will most likely reveal it.

You arent the only one, we are many with that problem,
whos pcs have a great low temp (43 while shutdown),
Who have updated ALLLL HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE (bios chipset, lan drivers, sounds drivers, monitor drivers, mouse drivers, KEYBOARD DRIVERS, antivir/firewall, Punkbuster
Who have tried to make a new xp hd boot where the 1st and only thing installed on it was battlefield.
Whos PCU is 500+ hmz,
hows pc speed should run the game in bloddy ultra high, but it still crashes in SUPER LOW. (Amd 64 3200, 1 GB kingston pc400 ram, RAdeon x850).
Who have tried all the little tips, like turn your soundcard acc down to low.
Who have tried all differnt kinda of grafficcard drivers and versions,
Who still wind up to the same god ugly truth, Punkbuster is the problem!!

Try playing a unranked, without PUNKBUSTER, and its 99.9% surtain that you could play as long as you like without as much as 1 crash... so until EA desides to remove PB option from the servers, we are forced to play on the 2% servers who hasent got PB

Don't mess with your computer's voltages unless you 100% know what you're doing, or you enjoy buying new hardware. :P

Check your RAM timings? Make sure they are operating at the right numbers, eg. 3-3-3-8, you can check it with cpu-z, try a google search. Mobos often get the timings wrong so you need to set it manually in the BIOS.

im having this problem to but...it happens in singleplayer... but it doesnt crash as fast as it does in multiplayer????

thanks for the replies guys. i have updated my sound drivers recently. still an issue. i will sift through these replies and hopefully it will work, and i agree damn pb.

Uninstall your graphics card, and clean the drivers using DriverCleaner Professional (read the instructions on his website!).

Also make sure your motherboard, and sound drivers are up to date, as well as PunkBuster.

If none of that work, then I must gander a guess, that it is heat related. While the case may not have problem, individual components may. My case "doesn't have heat issues" either, infact it runs 5*C cooler then Intel recommends for their case temperatures, but that doesn't explain why I had to spend an additional $40 for a new cooler just to get my CPU within a somewhat acceptable range.

Try using Everst Home Edition (you can google it) and check the temperatures at idle, and at load.


Also, is the crash to desktop? Or a total restart?

Run anti-ad/spyware and a virus scan. (AVG is good virus, Adaware, and Spybot Search and Destroy. All are free and are good. I use them myself).

Also double check in your BIOS that any onboard video is disabled, and if you have a seperate sound card make sure your onboard sound is disabled as well.

gday, i spyscan every day. do all that sort of stuff such as drivercleaner. I may have found the problem though. I have replaced the two ddr ram sticks with a mates and it doesnt seem to crash anymore. i used memtest and found the original ram had errors. i will keep trying these sticks and see if it fixes the problem.

well i played bf2 for about 6 hours last night, about 5.50mins more than i usually get. ni dropouts. seems the problems fixed. thanks for your help!

1 Gig is ample if you have your PC set up correctly and the correct RAM for your MoBo!

With 1.5 you will get problems as you cannot get 3 matched sticks of 500!

2 matched pair of 1 gig RAM will speed things along nicely!

I always get a crash if i dont have over 700mhz RAM free. I use a program to see how much free ram i got and i try closing applications running in the back to free RAM. Mainly crashing when am on a helicopter and there is a lot of action my pc cannot take it. Hope to see a change with patch 1.03. Dont forget that BF192 took a while to get its bugs out with patches.

Change your "virtual memory" settings in windows!
