A Question Regarding Dual Channel Ram On This Mobo, PLZ HELP!!

Im sorry if this is mentioned in other threads but it is really urgent and i need some replies right away!!

I have an Asus A8V Socket 939 mobo, i used to have 1gb of ram on my other computer, but they r two sticks of 512MB from different companies. what i want to know is can this work on my Mobo? or do i need to have 2 identical sticks of RAM from the same company??? if so, then its gonna be 512mb of ram for me for a long time.......

The have to be a matching pair, as mentioned in this Kingston Whitepaper:

In this context, “matching” modules means:
1. Both modules are the same capacity (e.g. both are 256MB, or 512MB)
2. Both modules are the same speed (e.g. both are PC2700 or PC3200)
3. Both have the same number of chips and module sides (e.g. both have the
same number of chips on the module, and both are either single-sided or
double-sided).

it goes on explaining how criteria is if you put more that 2 sticks in the mobo too. Whitepaper is a little 'old' and some motherboards might have newer features not sure, but going with quoted above and it should be fine.

it goes on explaining how criteria is if you put more that 2 sticks in the mobo too. Whitepaper is a little 'old' and some motherboards might have newer features not sure, but going with quoted above and it should be fine.

Just right-click Save As if you can't open in a browser. Then open when downloaded and it will open in Adobe Reader without being embedded into the browser.

bleh.......pdf does not work for me -- period.

can u just tell me if i can insert two sticks of 512MB of ram into my mobo even though the two rams r not identical/not made from same company/different same speed etc?? i dont give a sh1t about dual channelling, i just want a gig of ram, or is this impossible??

Sounds like the amount of RAM is the least of your worries then...

I don't think it will be a problem, you'll lack half the bandwidth you would achieve with dual channel.

In you manual on page 2-11 it says:

In Dual-channel configurations, isntall only identical (the same type and size) DDR DIMM pairs for each channel.

and then in general with no reference to Dual-channel:

Always install DIMMs with the smae CAS Latency. For optimum compatability, obtain memory modules form same vnedors. See Qualified Vendors List on page 2-13.

There's also a table on page 2-12 and it shows only one DIMM in Single Channel mode, so maybe they have to be on different channels or maybe you don't get the choice to select Single Channel when more than one DIMM is in the mobo.

If you have the RAM why not just try it out and see if it works.

okay, so i have 2 blue slots and 2 black slots, so what ur saying is put one stick in the blue and another stick in the black??

but will doing this seriously damage my computer?

At most it would probaly just crash while e.g. being in-game, that is what happens when I tried beefing up my brother's PC with different brands of RAM, other than that it could also just not boot, but it shouldn't damage anything.
