is the pkm really THAT much better then the stock guns? so far i hav DAO and m95 which are decent but i usuually dont use support so i didnt look into the PKM but i see a lot of people like it
if you are close to a group of people then a PKM would be handy. It isnt good for long range shooting but my friend who unlocked it has mowed down many an enemy with it.
Get the unlock for the kit you play the most first. This should be real simple.
If you want to expand your experience to another role, then get the unlock for that kit.
If you unlock a gun and end up not enjoying it, then it is a waste. I have seen soooo many threads here that support or slam eavery unlock.
Just figure out what you want to do in the game and try to add the unlock as a way of expanding the game for your self or as a tool to aid your team.
You paid good money for the game and you have now come to the point where you have earned the experiance needed to open the door to a new opportunity and experience within the game itself.
The real question is (initialize lawsuit from Microsfot now) "Where do you want to go now?"
I chose the PKM since I wanted to try my hand at team play rather than my lone wolf play so far. Now I just have to nut up and use my skills to aid my team.
Next I will probably go for the Spec Ops unlock due to the patches inclusion of points for C4ing commander goodies.

lol good one, everybody gets points, make two lines though, a line of engys, and a line of spec ops for each commander utility. And let the commander start thinkin, what the hell, my assets are goin on and off like crazy, i can't even get enough time to get my assets ready, and even if i do, i'll get massive tks because of the engys. But anyways, back on topic, here's my take on weapons.
G3: Great for close-mid ranges, more powerful than the rest of the ARs, but no noobnader, and a problem is that you could get a assault rifle without noobnader by using medic, so you should dislike the current rifles (at least one) and not like the noobnader enough to start using this thing.
Jackhammer: Owns up close, full auto, one shot kill if all the lead pellets hit the chest, but no range, and not enough ammo.
DAO-12: Moreammo than Jackhammer, semi-auto (basically as fast as you can click your mouse) but again no range, but the AT rocket and pistol make up for that.
L85A1: Nice scope, great for longer ranges, semi-auto very accurate, but the full auto is a bit bouncy (recoil) and it's not good in close range.
M95: A less accurate M24 with thicker scope lines, but ignores personal body armor, and can penetrate armored glass, great for if youlike sniper, but you don't like the MEC and PLA sniper rifles.
PKM: Very powerful, slow rate of fire (people consider this a good thing) and quite accurate while prone, but it still isn't accurate enough at longer ranges.
G36C: My pick for an overal good unlock, the thing sprays great for close -medium range combat, bursts are very accurate because of the extremely low recoil, doesn't have the scope that the M4 and AKS-74U though.
It would have to depend on which class youplay most.
My only unlock is the L85, I know some people slam it but I love the thing. In some situations I use the stock gun and others the L85, you just need to learn how to use it.
The best advice is probably just to pick the gun for whatever kit you play the most, all have supporters and opponents but I like the option of switching weapons in my favorite kit bases on the situation at hand.

Yeah, the L85 is a constant love/hate weapon, some people say it's the worst unlock ever, some people say it's the best becuase of the scope.
I'd recomend you either play on an all unlocked weapons server, use one of the cheats to unlock the weapons in single player, or just pick them up off kits and test them all out.
Once you've seen what they all can do, you can make the best choice.
I chose L85A because it added a new aspect to the medic class in being able to hit at extreme long range. It's a great counter sniper weapon, and works well at medium and close range bursting Full auto and using the scope to aim for the head. It's helping me climb out of the 200+ death/kill debt I was in from my first few days of playing.
I like support also, but actually prefer the RPK-74 over the PKM. RPK-74 has the same bullet deviations as the PKM, but shoots 25% faster. Does a little less damage, but can still kill a non-flak vest target in 3 shots, and the faster rate of fire will make up versus the armored targets.
DAO12 is nice too, but close range gun battles are something I like to avoid.

Why not the pKM or G36C, those are two of the most loved unlocks. People love the PKM becase of teh accuracy with such a slow rate of fire, i love the G36C becuase of it's incredible recoil.
i think i'll get the G36 for my next unlock i just Got my L85 and i love it but sometimes there's just way too many medics around and you're almost fighting for points with your own teammates which is just stupid so i'll just switch to another class and Spec ops isn't bad but the M4 really sucks to me I really don't understand how so many people score 1 shot kills with them but i picked up a G36 once when my friend revived me with my kit and i used his G36 with fair sucess it is a very nice gun with acceptabe accuracy and up close there's nothing that can beat it
