    Re: Singleplayers Unite!

Can feel for ya M3. I'm on Satelite Modem too. No other connections available at home.

I end up playing multiplayer at work on the T1.

At home I just mess around with the various mods that allow more enemies. It's not the same, but gives me something to do between online games.

You can create an offline only account.

Actually the tired old rubbish along the lines of 'this is an multiplayer only game, single player is irrelevant' does a great injustice to whoever put all the work into making the single player as good as it is.

OK, so this is primarily a multiplayer game, however it is clear that someone has put a lot of work into developing the AI for the Single Player game. While the bots aren't perfect, it is amazing how convincing they can be given the complexity of the maps and gameplay elements - I'd go so far as to say that the AI is way more advanced than in just about any single player shooter I've played [including SWAT4, Raven Shield, Far Cry and Hidden & Dangerous 2].

Why play single player when you've got multiplayer? Well multiplayer can be very exhilirating and satisfying [in a way that single player can't match], but sometimes single player is better for stress relief. Why? See whoring glory hunters, intentional TKers, bickering/rude teamates, endless kick votes, clueless commanders, unbalanced teams [not just talking about numbers here] - if you're unlucky with your server these things can make you more wound up than before you started.

With a few tweaks, the single player game, already good fun, could be a great game in it's own right. A career tracking system for offline accounts similar to the multiplayer one [just not online of course] is an obvious feature. Another is unlocks for offline accounts - after the patch, the only way you can use unlocked weapons in an offline account is to use a modified version of the demo [so you might end up going back to the demo even when you have the full game - crazy]. Other possible features like larger maps and more bots may obviously create performance issues, but the first 2 suggestions would make a huge difference IMHO.

I live in an area with only satellite connection so while at home, I practice on singleplayer. After 5, however, I can go to my dad's office and hook my laptop up to his T1 connection and play :) Soon I'll be heading off to college (which is why I bought the game) and then I'll have high speed for good.

Regrettably, a 'better' connection is not available--i.e., no DSL or cable modem in my semi-rural area.

Thanks for the sympathy. It looks like I'll have to be satisfied with what you do to add a little extra to singleplayer.

BF2 is all about multiplayer, but come on, EA Games could put a little more effort into new maps for us bandwidth disadvantaged folk.
Hey ,sorry you cant play online, myself and a couple of buddies started playing bf1942 back in the day and moved to dc when it came out. We always played single player COOP. If you can post here you should be able to download, right? If you can go to www.WCCsquad.com and download their coop 0.3 it opens up all 32-64 player maps and opens unlocks w/ tweaks on all weapons w/extended run and more......

When BF2 1st came out in demo, like everyone I was addicted and anticipation was terrible. The retail came out and the 1st week was intense and enjoyed playing w/ other people working as a TEAM! Week 2 went downhill fast. After dealing w/ repeated tk's and kiddies not even knowing what their doin. Then the point whore's.... that did it for me. I made it halfway through lance corporal and quit playing conquest. Too much aggrevation and not enough fun. I knew it was only a matter of time before coop was released, and now thats all i play, by choice.

lol, so homeboy should move to a new house, city, state or even country to play a video game the way you like it? Thats spot on logic.

I do infact like singleplayer aswell as multiplayer. It's a great break from the drudgery of the people, the lag and the pure crap that multiplayer sometimes offers.

I thought multiplayer might have some drawbacks, but from what I've read on this forum I would have never thought it could get so petty, so fast. Thanks for the tip about COOP!

That is true....what a shame lol. The new patch is being released w/ SP1 tools for bot pathing and ai. Mods will offer new maps and those tools will provide bots on all.
