Intel has had it's 64bit CPU's available for quite some time now. Keep up.
And 64 bit is really a technology ahead of it's time - there's no real way to utilize it yet. It's only probably 1 - 2 years away from being useful, but today's systems coulnd't take advantage of such a wide bus. You'd need at least 2gb of memory to actually make such a bus useful.
And it most certainly is not 'twice the power'. The moron who said that has no idea.
well it would be twice the power. it would process more operations than a 32 bit
yes 64bit is pointless at the moment microsoft recently released a Beta program to certin people and it was full of bugs and usless. they expect they will have it under control in about a year so dont even bother getting your hops up to get full advantage out your 64bit

The new Vista will also be available in 64bit. But as I said, it's pointless. It makes pretty much NO difference with todays hardware. It will be an excellent move in a year or two, but for now, it's just pointless.
Well ATI has drivers for 64 bit along with Soundblaster and many other internal hardware companies.
However its hardware like routers, printers, scaners etc.. that might be unsuported that causes problems.
Also windows 64bit doesnt support ANY 16 bit applications.
However the + side 64Bit windows
Everything can be programmed run faster, especially games.
Supports 128 Gigs of ram and 16 TB of virtual ram. (Windows XP profesional only supports 4 gigs of ram).
I've been running the XP64 home edition for a couple of months now and it's the most stable system windows OS I've probably ever used and can't see myself going back to 32-bit unless I have to (e.g. driver problems,...)
Fot those that are thinking of upgrading, Canon haven't released any printer drivers and don't intend to except for the Pixma i9000.
A 64-bit operating system (OS) paired with a 64-bit application will introduce substantial benefits. Windows XP 64-bit was released in April and most hardware vendors support it with drivers. The next release of 64-bit Windows, due sometime next year, will be called Vista, (also called Longhorn among us Beta testers). This is a complete new OS from top to bottom. Today there is very few applications that take advantage of 64-bit processing, however, in the gaming arena, a good example is Far Cry. Check out this link:
AMD delivers leadership high-performance and adaptive computing solutions to advance data center AI, AI PCs, intelligent edge devices, gaming, & beyond.
There are rumors that Dice may make a 64-bit version of BF2. If they do, we will see even more realistic graphics! Today most people will want to stick with Win32, there are driver issues with certain peripherals, but all major chipsets, graphic cards and sound cards are supported and new 64-bit drivers are coming out all the time, especially from nVidia and ATI.
I have a Winx64 machine built that way from the ground up.
BF2 works perfectly on it.
Yes it does but its still running in 32 bit. If you look at the program files directory bf2 is in its not in the regular one its in a special one for 32 bit programs.

The Far Cry example is NOT a good example of 64-bit gaming capability. The visual updates were part of the patch, and were NOT due to the 64-bit capability, nor did they have very much affect on the CPU at all.
AMD's goals are quite admirable, but the fact of the matter is that none of the visual improvements enabled by the Far Cry patches had anything to do with AMD64 or EM64T. They are artificially limited to run on those platforms alone, but could work just as well on a 32-bit platform.
With todays hardware, we're not likely to see games break the 2gb usage limitation any time soon. There would be NO tangible difference between running BF2 on 64bit vs 32bit systems.
