Can't Join - Install or Uninstall

Well I had almost the exact same problem a month ago, and EA tech had no idea of why or how to fix it, other than they agreed with me that uninstalling/reinstalling is what I probably would have to do. Problem starts out like this:
Game runs fine in SP & MP, and then the next time you fire if up, you can't join ANY servers, you just get thrown backwards to black text box saying "Refreshing Sever List" which it doesn't do, but you can still play SP games. Well it happened again last night, after some good games with my clan on Friday night, I fire up BF2 last night, only to find out once again I could no longer join any servers. Off I went to uninstall my game, this is where my new problem arose from. The uninstall just flashed by way to quickly, I never even say the area that allows you to keep you user settings, I just got a quick progress bar that went all the way to the right, then I was back to my DT. Upon cycling my optical drive the EA menu came up and I hit "Install" well install did the same thing, setup started to prep the install, progress bar went all the way to the right, and then instantly to my DT. Never any error codes during uninstall or reinstall.
I even went as far to remove every thing EA and DICE from my registry, emptied all temp folders, emptied my recycle bin, and rebooted, but this made no difference. I suspect like 42 and BFV there is an uninstall numerical key some where in the registry under current windows, and without knowing that exact key I'm screwed, or EA has something else hidden or buried some where. Why the error with uninstall I have no idea, but then this game comes form a publisher that can't control nor do they care about Dice’s lousy work on the game, and it attempting to patch the game, and this shows time again in 42, BFV, and no a major repeat for BF2, as they have once again lie and foiled at there attempt to give us the 1.0.3 patch that has now been set to an undetermined date for release. Mean while EA once again has its fat bank account, and doesn't give a crap when it come right down to it. I saw the hand writing on the all when about month went by with no official news from EA on the progress of the patch. Yes most if us are gaming in BF2 and for the most part having a descent gaming experience, but this game should have never hit the shelves until it was really truly READY!

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I never could find a solution.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I finally just reformatted and re-installed XP. I hope you don't have to go that far.

Re: Can't Join - Install or Uninstall

If you want to uninstall manually here what I suggest, maybe you missed a step like one of the registry keys when you tried first time.

Delete the folder where BF2 was installed to, and delete the Battlefield 2 folder in My Documents. If you want to keep your BF2 settings, then don't delete the folder in My Doucments but move to e.g. Desktop if you intend to use it later.

Then delete the registry keys marked in BOLD, you access registry via regedit.exe from Run Menu.
        [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2]

        [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DICE\Battlefield 2(TM)]

        [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B}]
Make sure to delete the right entries and only them, as deleting the wrong things in the registry can cause Windows to be unstable or even unbootable.

You can also delete the InstallShield folder for BF2, but probably not needed, press WINKEY+R, type %PROGRAMFILES%\InstallShield Installation Information\ and it will take you to the folder, then delete the folder {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B}.
Note it might be needed to set Folder Options to show hidden files/folders. Make sure it is the right folder by verfying the folder name or open setup.ini in the folder and it should have BF2 info in it.

Then you should be able to reinstall

Thank you very much Gunny, I had everything else, just need the uninstall key under current version. This should be a "Sticky", but one thing I would add is to click on the minus (-) next to my computer in the registry and then "File" and "Export" to back up your registry before you make any changes, this way you have a you can restore your registry back to its original settings.

If you're saying that 0 servers show up in the browser, change your filters ex. uncheck ranked and punkbuster and hit apply. This works for me.
