    Re: Engineer Underated>?

engineers are awesome; when i'm commander, i play engineer so i can repair my arty and stuff, and you just have to be careful of where you put mines; i know it's ******** that your teammates are too stupid to see the skull on the screen, but if you know where to put them, the mines own, and until i unlocked the anti tank's DAO-12, that Jackhammer was the best

Just check my stats, i always play as an engineer. People just underestimate the power of this class. Or are way too stupid too see the advantages when an engineer could be helpfull. ( Why do people drive off with lots of damage while i'm trying to repair ).

If you wanna have fun, then you should try the Jackhammer.

I was a die hard medic until about a week ago then started playing engineer much more. Now I'm having a blast with it. My Sgt. unlock is gonna be the Jackhammer. No doubt.

I've been doing some tank whoring... :) so the engineer kit is coming in very handy.

This does account for some of the reason. However I tend to think that it's the mentality/preference of many people that results in the engineer class being neglected (and yes, for the most part they are neglected on any map other than urban ones).

The engineer class is a defensive class, unless of course in maps like Karkand or Mashtuur where they can be used quite effectively as assault classes. And, as teamwork-orientated as the majority of players I see are, it's a rare player that enjoys sitting at a base waiting for the enemy to come to them. Because, really, in the more open maps that's all the engineer class is good for short of whoring tanks. The shotgun is useless at anything other than near point blank range, and the mines are of course purely defensive unless you enjoy running in front of tanks and hurling mines on top of them (which I must admit I do way too often).

But they can be very effective. Have two engineers and a support guarding a control point, and both armour and infantry will learn to stay away. All you have to worry about then is the damn helicopters hovering over the flag, where they use high-powered magnets to lower the flag and then raise their own. Or perhaps there's a monkey with some top-secret cloaking device hanging from the underside.

Then of course you have the engineers in urban maps. Running wildly into a control point and blasting 3 people in the face, whipping out my pistol and peppering another, then pulling a knife and sinking it into some poor guy's skull after he fires wildly in my general direction and runs out of ammo is one of my favourite pastimes (yeah it's happened before).
Thank you for your paper entitled "A Thesis on the Tragedy of the Engineer"... leave it on my desk, and I'll have it graded by Thursday.

The Engineer class is awesome, its fun to throw mines in front of tanks at the last second and then watch them blow up! Plus the shotguns are fun for assaulting on karkand....

The engineer class is terrible, its only good for when you play as commander or if you play in a match because you need atleast one engineer in match play. Long range combat, you have no chance, and close range I can blow any shotgun user away with my auto. Engineers aren't useless because they are vital in match play but in my opinion its not a very enjoyable class to be.

Even though this is off topic, all the time when I'm sniping in a public server people are like "WAHHH, CAMPER, WAHHH!" I think its because I own them so many times though =/. But anyways, snipers can defend two bases at once on many maps against infantry and transport vehicles. People who complain camper expect me to use my sniper as an auto and rush LOL. I don't sit in one spot the whole map because I want to make myself useful, so I normally defend bases or attack the enemy's base from long-range. Or when I just wanna kill alot I just go in a spot where I can get multiple kills in a few minutes, lay my claymores around me and then its mad fun.

because they are given no medium/long range alternative at all they suck, its no fun running around any map with a shotgun when any gun can kill at that range just as fast. Might as well take the wrench out and beat the shit outta people with that then use shotty. Thats the only reason people dont play this class as much as others.

                    Re: Engineer Underated>?

I play medic and Engi mostly. One other person here has the same idea about engi mines as me. I never use them to block off a entry, yes due to the TKs. I do actually run up to tanks and mine them, sometimes they run over them, and yes the odd time the mines go off for a TK, but it's worth it to help the team, and hopefully you don't get the punish. However it's more useful when you mine a tank and they realize it, because since I have the unlock, it means as soon as they get out I hear the engine shut off, and I whip out the jack hammer, they usually die. Once they are dead, I demine and repair said armour, and off I go in a enemy vehicle.

A good armour collumn obivously needs engis, but also a supply and a medic if possible. I had a squad with 2 engis and a supply, and we were just using 2 AA vehciles, and we camped out side of the enemy base. the supply guy would even run into the enemy base to steal vehciles while me and the other engi sat there picking off flying vehicles, or roughing up armour.

The jackhammer is good in CQB, but I've also gotten some good practice with the pistol now, and at medium range I can take people down if they line up for a couple secs, at long range I use it to just supress them if possible.

I also get more people thanking me then just running off after I repair them, I think people in general tend to remember assholes and forget nice people that do whats generaly expected.

I agree about range. Overall in combat the engineer class sucks. But in urban maps when everyones close the shotgun is much better than an auto. In the time you fire 1 bullet that takes away half my health i fire one round that takes away ALL your health.... At close range a skilled shotgun user > a skilled ak-101/m16/g3/g36C etc. User....

I'm sure the USMC didn't think I was useless on Shongua Stalemate as I totaly blew away 10 guys in a row.

I find the pistol to be one of the most accurate weapons in the game, just weak so it takes quiet a few shots. Odd how the sniper rifle is less accurate than the pistol despite the barrel length.

I don't use Engineer as much. In global I only have about 10 kills even though I'm a Lance Corporal. But Engineers are useful in tanks and armored vehicles. Not to mention they place AT mines. I've seen hundreds of people get killed by that.
