Engineer Underated>?

WHy do so many people think engineer is one of the most useless kits to play?
On servers u rarely see more than like two guys who use it. But if you think about it, they are vital for all blackhawk crews; and for any1 who wants to use armour effectively, you can quickly hop out with ur wrench whilst ur tank is hidden and repair it before attacking again. ALso engineers are the only guys who can repair artillery/commander stuff, and the shotguns are very powerful at close range, with 2 chest shots per kill ( I think).

I saw a poll on a forum on whats the most useless kit; and sniper came first followed closely by engineer.

commander can help himself by dropping supllys by the broken arti and radar etc.. but mostly they are noobs and scream for repairs...

Its the most useless kit because when you lay the mines idiots on your team run over them and you have a TK there for your best weapon is rendered useless

Engineers are underrated by most people. Many think it's because of the frequent TK's from teammates not seeing the huge red skull on the side of their screen, not to mention the little red one directly in front of them that many people seem to think is some type of candy (assuming they have the 3D map turned on)...though I have to admit there is the odd ill-placed mine.

This does account for some of the reason. However I tend to think that it's the mentality/preference of many people that results in the engineer class being neglected (and yes, for the most part they are neglected on any map other than urban ones).

The engineer class is a defensive class, unless of course in maps like Karkand or Mashtuur where they can be used quite effectively as assault classes. And, as teamwork-orientated as the majority of players I see are, it's a rare player that enjoys sitting at a base waiting for the enemy to come to them. Because, really, in the more open maps that's all the engineer class is good for short of whoring tanks. The shotgun is useless at anything other than near point blank range, and the mines are of course purely defensive unless you enjoy running in front of tanks and hurling mines on top of them (which I must admit I do way too often).

But they can be very effective. Have two engineers and a support guarding a control point, and both armour and infantry will learn to stay away. All you have to worry about then is the damn helicopters hovering over the flag, where they use high-powered magnets to lower the flag and then raise their own. Or perhaps there's a monkey with some top-secret cloaking device hanging from the underside.

Then of course you have the engineers in urban maps. Running wildly into a control point and blasting 3 people in the face, whipping out my pistol and peppering another, then pulling a knife and sinking it into some poor guy's skull after he fires wildly in my general direction and runs out of ammo is one of my favourite pastimes (yeah it's happened before).

Engineer is my fav class, shotguns are great for close encounters and people are grateful when you repair their vehicles, well most are anyway. I play engie almost exclusively.

I have just started playing enginner after a while playing sniper and medic, (people who complain about the sniper rifle are rubbish, sorry off topic) I have found that the engi is very powerfull class to play as. On Karkand the shotgun owns everything and they are great at tank whoring allthough i am unable to do this. In a BH they get a ton of repair points and assists. I have also downloaded the demo to try out the unlocks in single player and the engis unloacked shotgun is a beast so that is my next unlock when i reach corporal. However its a shame about the teamkills when using mines, hopefully sorted in the next patch

Engineer here too, it's not as useless as ppl think. What kills me is when you pull up along side a tank or APC that is taking heavy damage and start repairing and the dumbasses press on without letting me finish my repairs. If they want to make themselves an easy kill for the opfor, thats fine. LOL Try being one with the Jackhammer, it owns in CQB.

I demine my mines (redundant I know hehe) after enemy tanks are gone from the sector or destroyed but sometimes I just can't help it, last time I used mines on a M1A1 I got so pissed off at a teammate: I ran up to the tank and layed two mines, one in front of it and one behind, the tank moved and blew up but the explosion killed a dumbass on my team. Log read:

Borobemir [Killed] idiot teammate

He instantly punished me. FFS the mine wasn't meant for him and I took out the tank that was gonna spawn rape for at least another five minutes... Some people really get on my nerves.

But as well already posted, and quite well known, teammates don't play well with engies. Its really a pity, because they are the strongest kit to play if you think about it. What other class can 100% of the time one shot an APC/Tank?

I love playing Engineer sometimes. Even though it's not my favourite class, it's very fun to mow down enemy soldiers with the shotgun. Unless my team is really trustworthy, though, I refrain from placing any mines and just spend my time repairing anyone that requests it. Way too risky...a few days ago some teammate in a tank drove over one of my mines and somehow took out a Blackhawk with 5 people in it. Yay for my shiny new -20 teamwork score.

There are several reasons you wouldn't want to do this...the biggest being resupplying the spec ops guy that just blew them up...followed closely by not being able to use them to help out your own troops. I will admit I do get kicks wasting supply drops before calling in Arty or dropping them on an unsuspecting sniper...but only if nobody is asking for supply and I don't see any large groups of friendlies that would benefit.
