need help: prob with radeon 9250 w/ Omega Drivers

i have a very crappy comp so i always run bf2 on low quality and to make bf2 work i had to change AGP speed from 8x down to 4x

i have a radeon 9250 AGP 8x 128mb

yesterday i downloaded the new catalyst 5.8 driver from ATI because i saw it on lastest file of TotalBF2

the new catalyst driver from ATI seems to be missing the SMARTGART option which is the thing that allows me to change AGP speed

it doens't exist so i had to get other drivers to make my bf2 work

i found this

a lot of people had similar probs at the release of the demo
and then i heard some people who replace their old driver with this got their game working so i downloaded it

TODAY
i reinstalled bf2 to save space on C drive
but after i installed bf2 i cannnot change AGP speed to 4X
everytime i do it it simply returns to 8X on its own after reboot


if anyone know how to solve this please reply

and if anyone have the old catalyst driver (5.6 would be fine) or a link to it

Only help I can give you is advice to get 9800 pro from newegg.com

Its like 150 dollars but its a lot better and I play on all high with no anti aliasing on it.

thx that deal does looks amazing 9800 under $150
it could hold for a year or 2 before getting old

ill be able to afford it after i finish negotiating with my dad

anyway i'll keep trying bf2 is even so good on low quality

If you cant find smartgart you can run it from a command line on the windows start menu.

Start/run/smartgart.

You may find it is possible to enter your motherboards bios and manualy select 4x agp.

Most bios are accessed by the delete key or f10.

Driver Heaven has all versions of catalyst available for download. Same for Omega's drivers. Matter of fact, Omega's support forum is there.

dude im in the same boat with you i need to find a driver mines cant start at all its says something about vpu recover and i dont know what to do and i dont want to return it cause if the only problem is that i have to get a driver i dont want to return if i can download it

looks liked i have to give up now

i tried 5.6 and 5.7 of old catalyst but in there the AGP speed still uncontrollable
when i go into the hardware information in catalyst control center(CCC) it says most of my hardware infos are unknown

bus type unavailable
bus speed off
BIOS version unknown
memory size unknown
......

my game worked in windows 2000 but not here in XP
its probably microsoft disabling all kinds of stuff in the name of security and stability
i might be getting a new card since i don't have win2000 anymore

and maskero if u have win2000 a older catalyst can get ur bf2 running on this cheap 9250 budget card

thanks man but i dont have win 2000 but if you can tell me how to get it i would be grateful cause i had this game for 3 days now and i still cant play it and it sucks so please someone tell me where i can get it

it still locks up my ability to change bus speed

because i'm on a fresh system i'm going to do more windows updates before trying to get battlefield working
i only have Dx9 ATI catalyst and battlefield 2 installed on my new system
dice has been always strict on keeping up to date with software and hardware upgrades

keep ur windows up to date and ATI programs will work like they were made to

i just upgraded my windows xp to service pack 2 and catalyst control center is now working hard for me as if i just killed its ancestors

win xp is so much better its lag less/stable frame rate/no random crash and i just saved $150
