I know this has been causing problems for quite a few people and there doesn't seem to be a cure for it yet.

I have done the following :

1 = reinstalled bunchs of times and tried to play with various versions to no success

2 = went to best buy and obtained a new copy and returned the old one with no new luck

3 = Did the manual uninstall by going into the registry and deleting everything. No luck.

4 = manually using the pbweb.exe thing a lot.

I have no idea what else to even bother trying....

Most likely, the modified content PB doesn't like is in your memory as that is where it scans it. Could it be that your RAM is older or going bad? Overclocked perhaps?

Nope my ram is all brand new, just got it within the past month. BF2 is the only games I have any trouble with. I have 4x512 PC3200.

I'm not sure I read what you said correctly but were you thinking that if I left the pbweb.exe thing in the folder it might mess things up?

Plus BF2 worked for ages...if the ram was bad I don't see why it would just start doing this.

I think what might have started it as when I got a Logitech joystick. It installs a profiler for it. Well you have the option to let it go find the BF2 exe so it can boot straight into it. Well that corrupted my bf2.exe. Ever since then all the reinstalls have left the game the same way.

Even when I uninstall and reinstall the logitech software though it still has my settings saved...I'm not sure how else to delete it. I even went into the registry and deleted anything logitech.

You dont need the profiler, the game recognizes the joystick if you have a least one profile for another game!

Ah yes I realize I didnt need it now. But at any rate...any idea how to completely get rid of the Logitech Wingman stuff?

You can leave PBWeb.exe in the folder with no problem.

I think it is most likely the logitech game launcher accessing the bf2.exe file that PB dislikes. What you are going to need is a regestry cleaner like "RegCleaner" or RegSupreme" to locate and remove those files. The reason being is because the string that causes the problems is named like {C7t8090LJ900-i0MLLMoj} which is not very descriptive. Those programs will properly identify them for you. You will most likely have to uninstall BF2 and clean it from the regestry along with the Logitech Game launcher.

Don't forget to delete the BF2 folders from My Documents and from Program Files. Finally, before reinstalling, go ahead and clear your Windows Prefetch file so it won't try to load an old BF2 or logitech profile. This would also be a great time to defragment the hard drive.

As an aside, it is also possible that there are errors in the RAM because you have all the DIMMs populated. Increasing the DIMM voltage a bit helps with that however.

Do you have a good link for RegCleaner? I'm always weary of downloading something like that from a website I don't know. I have CCleaner that I've been running...is that not as good?

I don't like CCleaner as much as most people. I find that it is more feature filled but also a bit bloated and intrusive. RegCleaner is perfect for what it does and it was made my Microsoft (but not advertised as such) for free distribution several years ago. Very easy to use. You can find a safe download here:

Well while RegCleaner did crash on me quit a bit it definitely found some Wingman Profiler entries that CCleaner did not. Thanks! Time to go see if this works....

Argg same thing. Should I completelly uninstall bf2 and reinstall then do all the driver cleaner stuff again?

I have the same problem and I completly removed bf2 form my comp and reinstalled it and it still doing the same thing

I'm in the same boat, the game has been fine for me for weeks no problems at all but since installing CAT 5.8 i've started getting this message often - see this thread as it seems to be affecting quite a few folk -
