It was a night of vast contradictions last night.
I started out a round on Karkand. I have never seen such deplorable play on a ranked server. Maybe I've been fortunate enough to have missed the worst of it, but I couldn't believe the sheer amound of n00btubing that I saw last night. I may have been the only assault guy shooting bullets.
I switched to engineer for a while, and was fixing our trailer, artillery, etc. A tank appeared, so I went to grab it. Someone started shooting me, and when I got into it, they jumped into a jeep and backed into me to cause a TK, then a friend helped them.
Thankfully I was able to make the points up in a hurry, but it was just disgusting. I like using armor as much as the next guy, but I've NEVER TK'd someone for it, or tried to hurt their score because they reached it first. Are people really THAT insecure?
So I laid waste to the enemy for a while, and eventually was smoked. This is how the game works. The next round the same thing happened again, except this time the guy apparently drove in from another base. I managed to duck out of the way, and drove around him.
So Karkand ended, disgracefully.
Next up was Songhua. First round we were pwned because noone bothered to defend a single chinese flag. Nor did one bird get in the air, because noone was thinking. So of course the BH did what you expect.
At the end of that round I told the guys we needed to get a bird in the air, and to keep the BH in check. When I said that, a few guys joined my squad. We grabbed a chopper, and made ready to do harm upon them.
It was beautiful. We knew we couldn't beat the BH, so the strategy was to balance out the number of flags, so that we didn't bleed tickets. We also did our best to support guys at flags. We took the right kits to keep the bird in the air, if it went down, our pilots would wait for everyone to spawn before they'd leave, or else they'd FLY BACK FOR US. I've never seen a pilot do that before.
Next round wasn't as successful, but I'd like to think that we tried our hardest to keep the enemy at bay. We didn't get any choppers, so we slogged around on a foot for a good part of the game. But again, people were thinking. We'd all be in an APC and if the driver saw unused equipment, he'd let people out to grab it, which allowed us to convoy. We were wupped, but we at least worked together.
Sharqi was up next, and I have to tell you, again, I was impressed with my squad's performance. Certain parts were like clockwork. For example, we'd caught the southernmost flag, and started up to hit the construction site. Everyone bounded through open areas, instead of walking around like idiots. We moved from cover to cover, concealment to concealment.
Got into the site, cleared the way to the building opposite the flag. Used suppressive and selective fire to keep the enemy down. It looked like our assault was slowing down, so I took the initiative, and ran up to the top. My guys provided overwatch. I ran across the beam, and then provided overwatch for them as they followed or spawned on me.
6 men, 1 flag. It didn't take very long.
I then used the commo and told them to clear buildings on the way down so there were no surprises. Area secure, no resistance.
It was like this through much of those rounds. Capturing the TV station was another exercise in good tactics.
So though we started the night off with the worst sort of playing I've seen, I was greatly heartened to see that some people will think on their feet, and will support their teammates because they will play better, synergistically.
Hell, I got a new badge last night as well. Maybe Kharma rewarding good work by all.
If I screw this up I apologize but to:
