    Video Settings

Should there be a 1280 x 1024 setting in the game for video?

There isn't..use the command line option instead:

    "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

Why isn't there and will that command hurt anything? How do you specify the screen refresh rate with the command?

Do you have any refresh rate forcing applications loaded? If so, unload them.

Have you been messing with the video.con file? If so, don't...that causes errors.

Could running that command unsuccessfully cause any graphics problems?

well I have an LCD and its native res is 1280x1024 so I use it and it works fine.Your monitor of course has to support this Res or you WILL have problems also depending on your GFX card the higher res may be hard on it.Oh and to be clear on what Talus is trying to show you,you are right clicking your BF2 shortcut and then Properties and adding +szx 1280 +szy 1024 to the end of that command line and applying.
Also just a note to any X-fire users you can also edit the commandline in X-Fire to do the same(have to find BF2 in the huge list of games tho)
