noob asks, what's the best way to get started online?

I've never played online in public servers before, and when I went to try to join a server I wasn't sure where to start. I don't want to be a total noob or get in anyone's way or end up where I'm not welcome. Just looking for a little guidance to get started, I guess. I've been playing single player for a long time but that's not really a challenge anymore. I'm sure I'll get my butt kicked online, but everyone has to start somewhere, right? :hmm:

Any tips or pointers would be welcome. Thanks!

If you want to learn (some of) the maps & weapons, play offline vs bots.

When you think you're ready, play online on ranked servers (so it will log your stats). Use server brower and remember to use the filter (like 'ranked'). Note: All ranked servers have two chevrons beside them. Since you're new, stick with squads. You'll probably last longer.

Note: A good site for info on ranks, medals, ribbons, badges is http://ubar.bf2s.com/

    Have fun.

BTW, welcome to the forum. :hi:

note bots run at you with knives and shock paddles trying to kill you, ppl in pub servers will shoot you on sight

Don't be like me and use one account from day one, make a noob account and get owned on that one, once you learned the basics make a new account and pwntilate them !!!

Thanks for the quick reply. Should I be looking for servers that have a lot of people in them and that are almost full or servers that have no one in them and hope that others join me? When I looked at them, most of the servers were either full, empty or 1-2 people short.

            Just keep playing.

When you start it is best to get used to the game in single player.

If you got that down your pretty much ready to get online just dont expect to be on the leader boards real fast.

GL its a heck of alot better than PS2 and XBOX games.

Reply to 2nd question:- Look for 32 man servers, AND MAKE SURE THE "PING" IS BELOW 125. The ping tells you how laggy the game will be (it is the connection speed persay).

Remember to use the filter, so you don't waste time loading up full servers or servers with 0/0. Also pick a server with a low ping, to reduce the chances of lag during gameplay.

I find the map size depends on your style of play. For 64 players, there will be lots of players = mass death => lots of points. If you like to rush, you'll probably like this. For 32 player maps, there is more team play. So if you like to capture flags, this will suit you. I don't play on 16 player maps so I don't know what they are like.

Wow, that's good to know. I thought it was the other way around!

Also, is it essential to have all of the voice stuff in place? I don't have a headset or anything...

Re: noob asks, what's the best way to get started online?

I find that i can personally get the msot points on a server with around 20-35 ppl. The 64 man servers are far too crazy for me. And i find the highest score on 32 man servers.

Espicially sense your new, id go in smaller servers. FYI FILTER FOR "RANKED" SERVERS. That will record your points and rank you up unlockng new guns and making you look cool with ribbons and stuff.

Check my sig below you get all those medals and shit and the scores from playing on "RANKED" servers. That is very important so you dont waste your time.

VOIP is overrated IMO. Everyone talked about it before BF2 came out. But in almost 198 hours of BF2 play, I find it is rarely used.

Play with headphones though. It really makes a difference.

Awesome. I'll get out my race scanner headphones. That should work nicely. Thanks!

Get a 10 dollar mic. Everyone should have one, then it would be used.

Today i was playing in a squad where almost everyone had a mic IT WAS AMAZING. We did terrific.
