amd 64 have a better architecture than intel p4. the p4 has a very long pipeline which negatively impacts performance. get an amd 64. check out articles on www.tomshardware.com for details i have both chips and the amd is much faster.

I have an AMD XP 2400 at 2.375 ghz, Zalman 7000 cooler though.

there are no p3 4 ghz. intel cancel the chip. the maximum pricewatch lists is $1020 - Pentium 4 3.73GHz 1066 Extreme! for that kind of money i would get a - $1010 - Athlon 64 FX 57 or a $881 - Athlon 64 X2 4800 Dual Core or even a $367 - Athlon 64 4000 and put the money i say into a kick a$$ video card like a $390 - GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB PCI Express or a $408 - GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB PCI Express and some fast 2 gb memory...

he means theortically....who cares anyway, AMD is faster for less money (with exception of X2) thats all that matters. Intell is the devil and will burn in hell with Sadam and *** Satan. AMD tears apart intel at everything except media encoding. For years intel has been missleading people and selling processors by using a GHZ system to measure performence. So people think more ghz = always better. but thats not true. An intel pentium 4 2.4 ghz will out perform an intel Celeron 3.06 ghz but an amd 2800+ ~ 1.7 ghz will out perform all of them.

Now even intel is trying to dispell the myth that has helped it sell processors for so long, because they cant go higher ghz anymore because if they go any higher the processors will use ridicoulus amounts of power.

Here is the mother of all CPU charts with a load of benchmarks. Thats how you should determine which processor you want, based on what you'll be doing.

Only thing that intel has to match the Amd 64 is the EE series which in most cases is 4-5x expensiver then a similarly performing AMD.
