Hey Guys, I had the MD5 Error i tried a few of your ideas with no luck. I then noticed i didnt have Java before my computer crashed BF2 worked fine so i got rid of Java AND ITS ALL GOOD NOW GET RID OF IT IT'S CRAP!!!!!!!!
Your MD5 signature for a file is basically the file's birth certificate. If that's fu**ed then the file is fu**ed. MD5 or CRC32 basically are what enable the FBI or whoever else to acquire files off of your hard drive that you think vanish when you right click-delete-empty recycle bin.
I got MD5 errors too, after searching the web I couldn't find a solution but only a workaround by installing several times and getting all the files and blah blah. But I found out what was giving me md5 errors, why my Cd-rom couldn't read the cd's properly.
I was overclocking my cpu, and when I brought it back down to the default level. And no more errors when installing anything! So if you're not overclocking, try underclocking!

Actually, MD5 is just a summarized hash made from a file, same as CRC32. If you use either flash memory, or wipe a hard disk some 27 times over, the FBI or whatever isn't finding jack ****. Of course, there are faint traces still in both flash and hdds, but if someone goes that far, you must have done something really f*cked up.
As for this, it corresponds to two things:
1) your BF2 installation media is damaged - try installing on someone else's PC
2.) Not enough system memory. If 1.) goes alright, you're **** out of luck until you upgrade.

You can't just disable hyper threading. If you disable it, you have to do a new install of Windows XP to the best of my knowledge. At least that's how it worked on my 3.06 P4 w/ HT, perhaps it is different on newer processors.
I know this post is old. But I have a 2 year old P4 3Ghz w/ HT and I can enable/disable HT from the BIOS without re-install XP. :\
bad stick of ram, usually involving blue screens here and there, especially when doing something ram intensive, bad HD involving MD5 doing something HD intensive, or bad CD usually involving lots of cycle redundancies with a few MD5 errors, most likely your ram is the culprit. but if you never get BSOD it probably is your HD.
