Have you noticed that sometimes it is impossible to revive a critically wounded teammate?
A revive won't work if:
- They are "killed". The obvious one, but I'd better include it! This will happen if they are in an exploding vehicle, direct hit with artillery or bomb, or they disconnect from the server. The body will fade out quickly, so this is usually not an issue.
- They have any part of their body stuck in a building, pole, tree etc. For example, if someone gets grenaded, flying into a wall leaving their leg clipping through (stuck in) the wall. Same as if the body ends up under a water tank with the leg of the water tank through their body, or lying through a support for a hand rail on some stairs or walkway.
- They have any part of their body submerged in water. This applies to any water, whether they are at the bottom of a river, or have their arm lying in a small puddle.
- The body is still moving. This will happen if the body gets blown to the top of a hill and starts sliding down it, or the body begins sliding over the edge of a wall or down some stairs. Use as much of the 15 second respawn time to let the body come to rest. If the body is moving very slowly, the revive will probably still work.
- (Maybe - Please Confirm) You attempt the revive through the "open" parts of a section of railing on a roof or stairway etc. For example, you will not be able to revive someone through the gap at the bottom of the safety barriers along the sides of some roads. I think this applies to the railings programmed in as solid walls with transparent areas, similar to the chain wire fences. The same handrails you can't shoot a rocket through, won't let you perform a revive through them either.
- (Maybe - Could Be Bug - Please Confirm) Ocassionally you have swapped kits with a few people. I have sometimes not been able to revive some people after swapping kits around. I notice it a bit too often to think it was one of the other conditions above. The difibrilators still work on some people, but not others, or start working again after a period of time... I'm really not sure about this one, It's just a suspicion I have, but haven't been able to confirm anything.
How to use this information:
- If you are sure you zapped someone right on the chest and they didn't splutter back into life, quickly check for one of the above. For example, if you see any water by the body or a pole through their leg, just keep moving, there's nothing you can do for him...
- If you are thinking about going for a risky revive while under fire, check for one of these conditions from a distance before deciding whether to go for it or not. A body on the edge of the river or swampy areas of Zatar Wetlands might be better left there...
- Of course if the coast is clear and you have time to keep zapping a body, keep trying it. Just come back here and post your experiences about what you think does and doesn't work!
