    Punkbuster and LAN

    I got 2 pretty decent comps.
    I want one to run Ded server w/ punkbuster enabled (over lan) and i'll connect to it w/ the other. I can run the ded. server already, and connect, and it works fine. Problem is, I can't enable PB and start the Ded. server. It won't let me, it needs internet access, which I dont want it to have. It won't even start up, if I enabled PB. Anyone know howto bypass this and run PB on a LAN setup (w/ dedicated box)?

    Why do you even want to run PB on a LAN ?

      Because I'm hosting a LAN party and don't want people to cheat!

        From Evanbalance :

        Does PunkBuster work on BF2 LAN Servers?

        PunkBuster for Battlefield 2, at this time, only works properly when the BF2 Server is set up to authenticate players with the Internet-based BFV global auth system. However admins can set the pb_sv_gameauth setting to 0 to tell PB not to kick players while central Authing is disabled on Internet-based BF2 servers.

        I really don't know the answer but mu gut feeling is that PB *needs* an Internet connection to work properly. It isn't just a stand-alone program that runs on the server. The server will have to be able to contact the PB main server. But I could be wrong :)

        Try asking on the Evanbalance servers...

          Well.....if it was my LAN party I wouldn't be inviting people around who would cheat :)

          Go read the PB manuals (players & admins). PB is probably trying to update and isn't able to w/o a connection.

          Can't you just let it update once and then kill the connection when the server is running to see if the game keeps on playing?

            Sorry for all these posts but you have actually downloaded the latest version of PB and enabled it haven't you?

            There are two ways to enable the PunkBuster Server. You need to join the server logged in as a server administrator and use the following console commands (without the quotes): "rcon exec pb_sv_enable" or "rcon exec pb_sv_disable."

            REMOTE CONSOLE ACCESS:
            To setup remote console access to the server:

            - On the server create a new plain text document in
            \admin\ called default.cfg
            - Enter the following text into the new file:

            port=4711
            password=YourPassword

            - Save the file, and start the server.

            Now you can access the server remotely by using the following commands

            from a client:

            - rcon login 'YourPassword'
            Use this command to login to the server.

            - rcon exec 'command name'
            Replace 'command name' with a console command you would like to execute on the server. For example: rcon exec pb_sv_kick 3

                  I doubt it. In my 2nd post I showed Evanbalance's answer to running PB on a LAN.
