    a quick RAM question

its been said before yeah, but im asking a somewhat different question before i put another gig of memory in this thing

i have 1 gig of memory atm 1GB DDR PC3200
i was thinking of getting another gig of the same thing

now i was wondering what RAM actually does to make a game like BF2 run quicker?

    i have an ATI 9800XT 256mb card
    pentium 4 3.20 GHZ
    and one gig of memory

i play a mix with thing on high, medium, and low at 1073 by 786 or whatever
this will double the speed i already have allowing me to play higher setting without losing FPS am i correct?

please do not flame me thank you for your help

    Re: a quick RAM question

in very simple terms ram stores things such as textures etc. So it can be pulled when needed at much faster speeds then having to search the hard drive for it.

      Re: a quick RAM question

so exacly what your saying is that i may be able to put things medium/high such as:
      shadows - none
      dynamic lighting - low
      terrian - medium

will this ram help my FPS in those heavy gunfights at all?

without losing much off a nice 60 to 80 FPS?

        Re: a quick RAM question

I just bought more RAM yesterday also (2X512 MB PC 3200). Totaling 2GB of RAM. I also ran a mixture of medium/high settings and AAx2. I tried to run most settings on high but had "flashing lights" during the game. So I put the settings back and ran smooth. The only difference I see w/ the extra RAM is faster loading times when joining a server. I'm one of the first "spawns" on the map! I have an ATI x700 Pro 256MB. Get it, it's worth it!
