when you play as an engineer can you pick up the oposite teams mines i have not tried it for fears of getting blown up

how could you pick up the other teams mines if you can't see them though?

You can disarm the mines by aiming the yellow circle at them with the wrench but I don't think they get added to your total i.e. If you have laid 5 and pick up one of theirs I doubt you can lay a 6th mine.

You can pick theirs up...if you have already laid 5 down thought and pick one of theirs up to use...once used, one of the original 5 will deiapear.

The only mines you can't pick up are the "claymores"...if you call them mines!

u can pick up claymores im perty sure, just not while on a ladder.

I've never been able to pick up a claymore as engineer.

I've tried it once and it worked. I don't remember if I was on the back side of it or not.
It's much easier to use a Tank or APC.
