Oh no! not more graphics advice?
Hi Lad's, this is my first post and I need a little advice. I can't afford something really nice. So I will have to make do with a medium range card, either a 6600GT or 6800. I have done a bit of research and it seems that the 6600GT is pretty fast, however some 6800's can have thier 12 pipelines increased to 16 pipelines quite easily and thus a standard 6800 can be converted to a 6800GT. This is a software mode, not a hardware mode so there's no soldering or anything like that. Has anyone any experience of this mod? and if you have, which make of card have you? I was considering the Leadtek 6800 TDH.

. But anyways, if you did do that, you would have to majorly overclock, seriously, you would have to up your mem clock speed by 300mhz, that's pretty impossible to do without burning out your card. I suggest you get the 6600GT, you save like 40 bucks, the 6800 gives you at max like 5 fps difference in games. But if you could sav money for 6800GT, then you would have no problems, and if you want a ATi alternative, you should look at the X800, it has 12 pipes, 128mb of GDDR3 mem, and 256 bit mem interface, and best of all it's only 154 bucks on newegg.com, it's cheaper than the 6800, and has competitive clock speeds, but if you want nVIdia my advice is to go for the 6600GT or save money for 6800GT. But it should all depend on games you play, ATI handles Direct Xgames well, like Half-Life 2, nVidia handles OPen gl games better, like Doom 3, and ATi does better on Anti-Aliasing for BF2.
