Seriously, this is a real answer to this question:
The name is a foreign one to most players, we english speakers will naturally tend to anglosize the pronounciation.
As a lot of western towns and cities have the "land" suffix in their name, so we look at the word "karkand" and imagine that it should have an L in it too.
Not very entertaining though is it D3ton8r? This might be a simpler explaination:
It's a land where everyone keeps karking it.

No clue. I used to call it Karkland myself because I just skimmed through the map titles, I never really took enough time to carefully read it. But one day, the map was loading really slow and I actually read everything on that page and I found out that there was no L in Karkand, so I was like, "hmmm, okay, its called Karkand...Karkland sounds better."Originally posted by -aK-BuffaloSouljaIs this some sort of lingo to call Karkand..Karkland now or does everone simply think thats what it is?Comment

Karkland and Kirkland is more familar to us Englishmen and American than Karkand. Sounds like a dinosaur or a name of those flying critters in Starcraft.Comment
