Norton Antivirus Problems and New Worm

Today on the news they were talking about a new worm that makes the computer turn on and off. This has happened to me late last week. But the only thing that is different is that last week i also tried turning my video settings on high for one game. I am thinking that the computer overheated and shut it self off. Also I am having a problem with Nortin Antivirus. Every time I start BF2 my Nortin Antivirus asks me to permit the program, and I do, but then the same exact message shows up like 5 seconds later. It does that with other online programs as well, but to get around that i go to the options and disable the worm protection for like 5 hours. And I have been doing that every time. But there is that worm that is out there and I am wondering if anyone had their computer just shut off right when they were in the middle of something. I would post this in general news but I do not have permission to do so. There might be another section for this thred so sorry to totalbf2 and anyone else that has to be perfect. I know the worm is removed with Norton System scan. I havent had the computer shutting off anymore, it just happened once and that was between last thursday and saturday cant remember. I still think my computer over heated, but to some of u guys that have norton antivirus tell me y this permit thing keeps comming up. If any of u guys have any info on this new worm can u share what u know. Thx

I believe that norton users have to turn of some feature that sheilds from worms or similar, a search of forum with word norton would probably yield results.

The current worm, you probably are talking about is affecting Windows 2000 (and early versions of XP I think) so it probably has nothing to do with Norton asking all the time.

Try splitting your text up a little more, one big section makes it hard to read.

I get the whole nortons pop up thing all the time. Its annoying having to allow access to the same program every 2 seconds. What I do is just wait until it pops up and go back in the game, it never asks for permission that way as its still waiting for your input from the previous time.

P.S It wont stop your connection e.g browsing servers, joining servers etc.

The hell with Norton, man. A lot of viruses out there are immune to Norton as their first action is to turn off Norton! Therefore, Norton is to antivirus programs what Windows is to operating systems: widely used and vulnerable.

I highly recommend switching to AVG.

Get Windows antivirus for PC & laptop: block viruses & protect against malware. Download AVG AntiVirus Free, now!

It's free, as in 100%, free for the home user. Finds and removes all sorts of things Norton does not. Updates itself automatically, etc. etc. Works great on both Win2k and XP, I've been using it for well over a year and a half now.

Norton Internet Security is also worthless. Ask any computer tech (that would be me), go on, ask 'em. If you need a firewall, just go out and buy a router/firewall and forget about it. I've been running behind the same Linksys cable/dsl router for 4 years and haven't had a single issue involving unwanted intrusions on my LAN, nor malware or anything else infecting my system (thanks to Firefox and to me for keeping my OS, router firmware, etc. updated).

Trust me on this one, uninstall Norton and don't look back. McAfee and Panda are two more scanners that people are fond of that just aren't as good as the free version of AVG, Kaspersky (as was mentioned) or PC-Cillin, to name a few. Trend Micro's Housecall site (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/) can also work wonders.

I have Norton and this should help:

On your taskbar disable Norton Internet security and Antivirus by right clicking on their icons.

Once disabled, open the Task Manager and terminate all processes beginning with CC. Example: CCAPP.exe, CCPROXY.EXE, CCSETMGR.EXE and CCEVTMGR.exe. This closes all the norton crap and you will no longer have any interruptions.

Make sure you disable the programs first, otherwise your internet browsers are sure to fail to connect and you will have to restart.

i have mcaffe and NEVER had a problem wit bf2. it updates by itself, once a virus comes on my comp, it asks me want i should do wit it. i got rid of one virus out of one virus and was a stupid worm. anyways, i say switch over to McAffee, i am surprised wit its performance. i can leave it on while i play bf2 and does not give me trouble.

I'm a tech as well and Norton (especially Internet Security) is nothing more than a problematic resource hog. AVG is really good and you can't beat the price.
