Battlefield 2 has ruined my brain...

Well not really but it has certainly done something...

All my life I have played FPS games with the mouse set to: Up is Up, Down is Down. That is until I played Battlefield 2. Let me explain:

I first played the Battlefield 2 Demo, everything was good. I loved the game and my mouse was the way I like it. I then bought Battlefield 2 within days of its release but I hit a brick wall. My standard mouse controls felt wrong. It felt as if I was wearing my right shoe on my left foot, Vice Versa. So I had to invert ala Flight Simulation. Now I cannot play my games like normal... EVERY FPS HAS TO BE INVERTED!!! WHY OH WHY?!?!?!

Anyone experience a similar issue?

I have also inverted my mouse for BF2. After questioning inverted mousers for years, I am now happy to join the "inverted mouse is the only way" club. It used to be inverted for air and helicopters only, but now it's across the board. I do have a theory however...

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas came out a couple of weeks before Battlefield 2. Being a console port, designed for the PS2's conroller, it had inverted mouse as default. Worse, it only had a single invert mouse option. This meant flying the planes needed a jump out into the options to change the mouse setup, and back again afterward.
I decided to learn the invert mouse thing, and it stuck for BF2. It only took a couple of weeks before it became natural again.

I don't like the fact it's called "invert mouse", it should be called "1337 m0u53" or something that doesn't make us sound like we're doing something wrong. :)

Inverted mouse is where you reverse the Y axis. You will push the mouse "up" away from you to move the crosshair or nose of the aircraft down. You pull the mouse "down" towards you to move the crosshair up or pull up the nose of the aircraft.

Most people will prefer inverted mouse on their choppers and aircraft settings, as it simulates the way you would use a planes' stick.
Using the invert mouse on your infantry (to control the look/crosshair), vehicle and boat settings means you are truly an "inverted mouser".

The way I think about it - to justify it's "naturalness" is like this:
- When driving the tank, think about the turret being like the arm on a crane, with you holding a wire attached to the end of the barrel. You push the mouse forward to slacken off the wire, dropping the barrel lower.
- When playing infantry, the mouse is controlling your right "trigger" hand, with the gun pivoting on your left hand that is supporting the barrel of the gun. Moving the mouse up causes the gun to rotate, pointing the end of the barrel towards the ground.

My Brain Works Again!!!

So my motherboard blew the otherday so I had to reformat my drive after buying a newer and better board. I reinstall Battlefield 2 and guess what!?!?! My Brain is back to normal, I can play with non-inverted mouse!!! WOOO!
