            DO THIS-

Uninstall the driver from control panel (display driver)

            restart

Ignore messages saying (new hardware found). Now run driver cleaner pro.

            restart

            NOW INSTALL NEW DRIVER :).

Why isn't it available for download on ATI's site?

EDIT: NVM..followed link, read the note.

I just tried it without uninstalling my old drivers or running driver cleaner. It seems to run fine. I havent noticed much of a difference. I think there is less lag but i only played 2 games.

                  I'm running an x800xl and 1gig

woo hoo!!!! i have an x800xl, and have been plagued by black ground , big square crosshairs and garbled text since release - and im happy to say, after 2 hours exhaustive play, all problems seem to be cured!!! well done ati, for sorting out dice's mess!

                      New Features

The latest Catalyst™ software suite provides support for COPP (Certified Output Protection Protocol) which is available in both Windows XP Service Pack 2 and the latest version of Windows Media Center 2005 (available through Microsoft Windows Update). COPP support will allow users to view high definition analog and digital content (to be released in the future) on select digital and analog displays

Issues Resolved in Catalyst™ Software Suite 5.8

The following section provides a summary of the issues that have been resolved in the latest version of Catalyst™. These include:

                      * Battlefield 2: Geometry corruption or missing textures are no longer noticed when playing the game for an extended period of time under Windows XP with an ATI Radeon® X800 XT installed

there's bunch more but not related to BF2

I've installed em and I don't see any performance difference. Didn't have any issues before.

one thing i didnt like about this one is that i have to have the control center instead of the control panel

oh well, ill wait till ati have it on their site to get it again with the control panel

I'll just wait for the new Omega's! Usually comes out a week after ATI's.
