I've only had the opportunity to do this once, as it does rely on some specific conditions.
It was Operation Cleansweep, I was on the USMC side, the MEC had taken out our artillery, and the spec-ops guy was still hanging around. I drove over from our airfield in a DPV, and took out the pest. The commander then dropped a supply crate behind one gun to repair it, which it did, but the other two were still destroyed.
Using the DPV, I gently pushed the supply crate over past the other two guns, and they both sprung back into action.
You'll need to be very careful, as hitting the supply crates with any speed will usually destroy them.
