There is a problem with your connection!

Greetings, I moved to a new house this past weekend and got a new router/modem. It is a netgear cg814wg, although it is a wireless modem I have my computer setup directly to it and the other computers are wireless. However, ever since I set my computer up ehre I havent been able to play BF2, internet works nicely, other games work too, the in-game BF2 browser works regularly and I can join games w/o problem, but as soon as I hit "JOIN GAME" and the spawn point window comes up I get the "There is a problem with your connection" message and I'm unable to play.

I already set my computer as DMZ host, and forwarded the ports and it still gives me that message, is there anything I can do to fix this problem? It was working just fine before!

EDIT- Yes I already updated PB and still gives me that message as soon as I join a game.

EDIT2- I also tried smartclose and the other thigns suggested in that guy's "Theory".

This is very frustrating because it seems that BF2 is the only thing not working now!!

have you tried re-installing the game...worked for me...also, try manually updated pb, and maybe re-installing the patch...i found when you switch hardware it bugs the software.....try those things and if they dont work ill think of something else...

There is an issue with the NetGear routers it seems.

Try updating the firmware of the router once, see if that doesn't do anything.

Also DMZ = everythings open and free, so generally its a last resort.

If you play by your board name I can tell you why you can't connect.

You are on the PB master ban list.

Ouch, a multihack. (you might want to X out his IP)

Well dunno if you hacked or not, but sucks for you bud! If you did hack, then you deserve every bit of pain and anguish you're getting, if you didn't, well then sucks to be you!

Shame on me.....musta been that WH i used back in 1.0.0

But in any case, this is not the problem, any other profile I use gives same error.

I tried getting a new firmware but at netgear site it says that there is not firmware upgrade and that if I need a new firmware I need to contact whoever sold me the modem/router(its one of those wireless modems that have 4 extra ports).

                  Fresh reinstall didnt help either.

Gee, thanks for letting us all know you cheat. :thatsbad:

The above in bold is your GUID.

                    What is a guid?

In general, GUID is an acronym that stands for ?globally unique identifier?. The guid inside PunkBuster is used to identify players with something more solid than their playing name or IP address. Your guid is loosely based on the cdkey that was used to install the game on your computer. When Server Admins kick or ban a player from their server(s), PunkBuster uses the player's guid to enforce the kick/ban. Since it is based on the game installation, it is a better way to identify individual players than by looking at their IP address or playing name. For those concerned about privacy, PunkBuster uses a 128-bit one-way hash (a mathematical function) to generate the guid from the cdkey so that no one can figure out or compute your cdkey by knowing your guid.
Are you starting to get the picture?

When Even Balance detects cheats being used that attempt to bypass or prevent PunkBuster from working correctly they may decide to prevent that GUID from playing on any PunkBuster enabled game server by Globally Banning it. Players who receive this message can still play on non PunkBuster enabled servers, or purchase a new copy of the game.
Have fun buying another copy of the game. :hi: See ya!

Innocent until proven guilty MachineGunDave despite what's been posted in this thread, lets see if there if there is a genuine solution to this specific problem that someone can offer.

He admitted to using a wall hack in version 1.0.0 (first release) of the game. I think that kinda puts him in the guilty category.

                        *Edit

                        His solution is:
                        A) Convince Evenbalance to take him off the list (Zero tolerance, good luck).
                        B) Buy another copy of the game.

If he wants to attempt to clear the ban with Evenbalance he needs to go to https://ssl.evenbalance.com/troubleticket/ and tell them he didn't cheat.

Either way, I think it is safe to assume that the ban is the reason why he can't play the game. To make sure he can attempt to connect to a non Punkbuster server and see if it lets him in.

Its not his IP, its his GUID which is based off the CD-KEY he put in when he installed the game. The copy of the game he used is essentially toast for Punkbuster enabled servers. I would also think twice before going back and using your old nick/profile as that may just get any new GUID put on the list.
