Tripleplay's Not So Obvious Medic Guide

I've been playing medic for quite some time now, and I've found a lot of little tricks that aren't too obvious to the average player, but are very usefull. I'll start with my tips, but feel free to add any of your own.

    1. The Art of Reviving
    • Go prone and aim for the chest. The paddles have a surprisingly long range while you are proned. If you see someone out in the open, see if you can stay behind cover and revive them. It doesn't seem like it will work, but trust me, try it.
    • After you revive someone, make sure you let your paddles reload/recharge. There is nothing more annoying than pulling out your paddles in a high pressure/low time situation, and having to wait the extra couple of seconds to prep your paddles. Sometimes there just isn't time after you revive, and you have to whip out your weapon as fast as possible. Because of this, if you see a revivable teammate, have your paddles out for a while before you get to them, in case you forgot/didn't have time to recharge last time.
    • Just because the guy on the ground doesn't have the empty bar above him, it doesn't mean he isn't revivable. If a person is visible(not fading away), and their kit is close by them, chances are that they are revivable. A lot of times when you spawn, people who were critically wounded before you spawned will not show the empty bar above them.
    • Make the first shock count. It's much quicker to take the time to line up the first shot and get it right the first time, than to be sloppy and have to wait for the paddles to recharge.
    • NEVER get out of your armor to revive a person on the ground. You may feel warm inside for a second, but when the once-friendly tank with a new driver comes rolling into your spawn, you'll regret it. Even if you're in what seems to be an empty area, there's always enemies lurking around, it just isn't worth the chance.
    • Knives? Naw, shock paddles! Killing someone with shock paddles is much more humiliating, but also much more difficult. It has neither the range or the rate of fire of the knife.
    • Don't be stupid. If you see a wounded teammate that if revived would be killed instantly again(read: in front of armor), just let 'em die. They won't appreciate having their spawn time hiked up another 15 seconds because you wanted 2 extra points.
    • Watch out for grenades. My first instinct when I see wounded enemy(s) near a medic is to throw a grenade. If you use the option "English VO only" and you hear "grenade", check to make sure the target isn't the person you are about revive.

    2. The L85
    • Short Range: This is just about the only time you're going to be using this thing on "auto". The spread increases incredibly fast, so try to use 3-4 round bursts. A lot of times, if you catch an enemy from behind at close range, your first instinct will be to hold that LMB and not let go, but a lot of times you'll only get 1 or 2 hits out of a full clip. Stay calm, go prone, and get the enemy quick and clean with a few quick bursts.
    • Medium Range: Medium range can be tricky. With the inconsistency of the weapon, it's usually a better idea to use single shot, but sometimes you just don't have the time to switch. 2 round burst will do you well, but if you have the time, use your single shot.
    • Long Range: The L85 is a sniper. The scope gives you the range advantage over almost all weapons. Drop to prone, and calmly use single shot to finish your enemy with a few well placed shots.
    • OMG WTF single shot is so innacurate! Remember, if you switch to single shot, only to click/fire as fast as if you were using auto, it will be as innacurate as if it were auto. It takes some practice to find, but there is a firing rhythm at which your accuracy will stay very high, while maintaining a decent ROF.
    • The L85 will penetrate thin materials(like the tin fences on Karkand), but it will do significantly less damage. If you pump a few round into an enemy, and see him run behind a fence. Estimate where they will be, and spray away. If you are lucky, they may even stick near the fence, and clip through a little, making your job that much easier.

    3. Health Packs
    • Everyone appreciates health packs. You are the only class that can heal, so make sure you do it. Scatter them everywhere. Some people call it "stat padding", but ask them if they really don't appreciate a random health pack around the corner when they're about to die.
    • Heal yourself! If you are about to make a sprint across an alleyway, or between fences, etc, have your health pack out incase you get fired at. After a 1v1 firefight where you take damage, lay a health pack at your feet and reload. By the time you're done reloading, you should be at full health. A lot of times it is much quicker to drop a health pack for yourself, instead of letting it slowly refill. With health at or below the halfway mark, I think it's quicker to drop a pack. Read below for the exception.
    • ENEMIES CAN SEE WHEN HEALTHPACKS ARE DROPPED. No joke, this is one of the most common mistakes medics will make. If you think you are hidden behind a wall, and you start dropping health packs, everyone, including enemies will know exactly where you are. If you are trying to hide, and you need to heal yourself, be patient and let your health slowly fill up. Better wait a little longer, than give away your position.
    • Snipers get shot at a lot, yet don't move very much, so if you see a sniper, drop a health pack on him, he'll appreciate it later.
    • You can throw health packs pretty far. If you see a wounded teammate across the street/behind different cover than you, try to throw a few health packs over, rather than risk moving to them.
    • If you are in a vehicle, you will heal everyone around you. Just drive up next to a wounded teammate, and watch their health go up! Sometimes it's not so obvious that you're a medic, so alert squad members that if they walk up near your vehicle, they will get healed.

Well that's all I've got for now, add whatever you want! I hope this helps some people out.

If you really think about it, the revive option with the paddles is pretty stupid. This seems to be something added just to get your score up high. Don't try to tell me that medics carry defibulators around the battlefield and revive soldiers and then they become healthy as new. While I enjoy playing with the paddles, it is a pretty dumb addition. A medic should just be able to run around and distribute health. That's it. Not be able to bring 20 people back to life with full health in one pass of an area. They should have made it similar to the engineer class. After a certain amount of revives you get a point.

As far as I know, dead soldiers don't respawn on real battlefields either.

Nice Medic write-up. Ignore the whiner.

yeah, nice write up. I don't play the class at all, but some of my teamies do. I will send them this way to read it!

It's a good beginner's guide but you should mention the fact that the L85 is optional(my favorite kit is medic and I loathe the L85).

You should include tips for using the M16 and AK-101 I think.

Nice write up. The game is so much more enjoyable when played with your noodle. I'll definately use your tips to sharpen my medic skills.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I only wrote up a section on the L85 because it's all that I use. I wouldn't be able to right up an adequate guide on the other weapons.

I play a medic almost all the time and I never do this nor will I ever. So you like healing the other team too? If someone needs healing Ill come to you. I almost always get the best healer on the map also. You dont need to drop packs all over for both you and the enemy.

I didn't know meds can heal the other team via dropped packs. Supply crates yes... but not medic packs. Can anyone varify?

Health and ammo packs are universal. IMO you should lose points over time for supplying/healing the enemy. Not a drastic penalty, not even -1 for one, but like -1 for every 3 packs claimed by the enemy or something.
