2 things that need to go..

    Chopper Capping..

    and Commander mode..

Chopper capping is so corny..shiows no skill (gee everyone look at me hover!)
Ruined Battlefield Vietnam.. making BF2 silly as well.. Since when did a
chopper take ground in any war? ever? Make it land, something.....

Commander Mode took stealth out of this game entirely.. face it, you know,
like myself when youre running around EVERY map in this game, you have
that constant knowledge that the enemy knows EXACTLY where you are..
and A true sniper is non existant in this game any more.. Constant UAVS
and SAT scans are a joke.. What kind of idiot game creator takes stealth
out of what is supposed to be a realisitic war game..

Either tweak the commander stuff so it isnt a never ending magical map
with all the enemies on it, or make it a server option. Give me a game
with no commander either team any day..MUCH more fun.

I know I know, Im wasting my breath.. even if EA did have a lick of common
    sense, theyd never show it..

i too think the hover capture is gay, but you have to admit, when you are in the chopper, it is quite fun!
as for the commander mode and stealth, go spec ops to be hidden from uav an SATs, but i gues you can still be seen from the zoom in map.
i say out with the super zoom in!

Chopper capping is being fixed in 1.03. We don't have details yet of exactly how though.

As for commander mode get used to it because they will not be alterring that given it was a major feature introduction for BF2.
Personally I don't find it causes me any issues. Just don't be the dot that never moves on the enemy commander scan and you will be just fine.

He's not saying to remove it from the game, he's saying it should be a server option so people can decide for themselves whether they want to play with it or not. Then we'll see how good their 'major feature' rates in the eyes of the people who actually play the game rather than the people making it.

I have to agree. I've only played single player so far so commanders aren't really an issue (other than the inevitable artillary shower when attempting to take a flag, but since it's a certainty you also know to expect it). But if playing multiplayer, I wouldn't ever choose to have commanders. Artillary is so deus ex machina that it's absurd, and the omniscience of the scanning does take stealth entirely out of the game.

If you're trying for realistic war simulation, then any person familiar with it would tell you that commanding officers never have enchanted maps to tell them exactly where all enemies are located.

Funny you mention Commander mode. This weekend I spent my time on a 24/7 Karkland server and while it was a lot of fun to fight with 64 other players, I felt the constant artillery spam along with the massive amount of enemy vehicles pinning us down took away from the chance of a counter attack.

To clarify, on the US side we were pinned down on the hill and vehicles were camping us. Cool, I say! Gives us time to figure something out and come back with a counter attack, but then low and behold, here comes the artillery over and over and over........

As you can see, I was getting frustrated at seeing us push in to have a constant artillery spammage push us back up the hill. I wish EA would add more time in between artillery strikes so that players can actually fight. I don't mind artillery in the game because it fits, but not when it becomes artillery spammage that takes away from a good drive to push in and take a flag that was well earned.

I would like to see artillery useage at a bare minimum if possible. I think it resets too fast for a Commander to the point where they do not participate in the game except to find some spot out of the battle to prone down for 30 mins or more.

I think Karkland would be even better place to fight if this change were made. Let the players actually fight for something instead of getting constantly spammed on when a push is finally happening.

Your post is crap...multiplayer is much different than singleplayer. Also, in theory artillery and scans take the stealth out of the game, but there has been only one commander that I have played against that actually took the time to deal with a squad that entered his main base from the forest and hills.

There should be a limit on artillery on Karkand. Artillery is too constant and too powerful given the density of the battlefield and how slow the movement is from one place to another...

Artillery is going to be far less of a problem come 1.03. Due to them giving points in 1.03 for special opps blowing up commander assests I think artillery is going to be out of action most of the time.

You see points whores are useful for something

I have heard that when you are a spec op you are still on SAT and UAV scans.

I am hoping this is the solution to the artillery problem, but I would also like to see the supply drops on artillery for auto repair gone too. We have engineers for a reason. Lets them repair the cannons.

While I choose not to play Commander, I happened to be near a cannon that was being C4'd. We did not get to it in time from being blown up, but not soon after comes a supply crate out of the sky to auto repair it. I am like saying to myself, I wish a Commander were on point when the troops call for a supply drop, but he is so on point with dropping one on his own artillery.

I am just not in favor of seeing this process. Make it so that Engineers make an extra few bonus repair points to counter the cannons being blown up by Special Ops. Give Engineers something to want to do for some extra points.

Hmmz didnt know spec ops where stealth against UAV and Sats, but they should've made snipers stealth too tho, same tactical purpose. Sneaky enemy killing machines.

I think the thread starter has a point tho. Even I when in a given area ask and check my UAV scan for hostiles instead of roaming around the area for searching.

Also another problem is, you cannot easily spot wallhacking n00bs, cus he couldeasily say it was the UAV scan he used ......

You know with a load of enemy special opps guys hanging around your base it is a really bad idea to drop supply crates there. Every time I see this I refill my C4 and make sure I have blown up every assest. You can keep refilling via the crate until the crate is next to the last asset at which point you blow that and the crate. Points whores are going to be doing this a lot as they can keep themselves in a cycle of blowing up assets without running out of C4. Actually I can see this turning into a kind of point farming exploit.

So yes the problem you highlight still exists but I think the above situation will fix it.

I am pretty tired of people saying "if you want realism go find another game".

BF2 uses reality as its basic, defining model.

Sure, the exact bullet trajectories are not perfect and you obviously can't jump in and out of a vehicles in a split second in real life, but these inconsistencies aside, the game is based on reality.

That's why we have the weapons we have, the vehicles we have, the environments we have - it's why you're playing humans and not aliens or talking, bipedal dogs. The game is based on our present reality, and as such, we expect that certain fundamental things ought to be considered for inclusion in BF2's interpretation.

                            Stealth, for one.

The inability for someone to jump 4 feet high in heavy body armor and fire a grenade at the ground 3 feet away and NOT die.

Substantial indoor areas (i.e. not tiny, 2 room cottages) nestled within the regular outdoor maps.

Heat-seeking, locked-on missiles that actually lock on and seek heat.

                            Helicopters that aren't made of space-age hyper-durable titanium invinci-alloy.

Engineers that can't magically repair external, structural damage to a vehicle... from the inside.

Satellite scans that don't tell you the location of EVERY SINGLE PERSON within a given area, even people who are indoors and out of site of the satellite's optics.

Planes that can't rearm and repair while airborne and moving at 800mph.

Light machine guns that actually fire projectiles as fast or faster than other guns (support guns fire at 500 m/s vs 1000 m/s for everything else, even pistols) and are accurate beyond 10 yards.

                            Add your own!

"Planes that can't rearm and repair while airborne and moving at 800mph."

I always had a problem with this too. You should have to land to reload. I have read many replies saying they cannot, but that is BS. I watched a really good pilot land his plane on the aircraft carrier and I was amazed at how smooth he did it. If he can do it, other pilots can too, but refuse to learn.
