sound.con settings, what do they do?

I find many sounds in BF2 too quiet. If you've ever been to an airshow, helicopters and jets are extremely LOUD. But in BF2, they can be very quiet even while very close. Obviously I don't want them to be as loud as the real thing, but they seem far too quiet currently. Is there a way to change this?

    In sound.con, there's the following:
    rem *** 3D settings ***
    Sound.setDopplerFactor 1
    Sound.setRolloffFactor 1
    Sound.setDistanceFactor 1

Has anyone experimented with these? They seem like they might do what I want. I want distant sounds (10-40 meters) to be louder.
Also, which sound.con am I supposed to edit? i have about four in my BF2 directory. Don't know which one to use, they all look the same.

To my mind, those look like settings for

Dopplerfactor = (the way sounds are higher pitched as they travel toward you, lower as they recede from you) which would affect the way the noise sounded in game ie wether you could tell from sound alone which way the vehicle was moving. 1 would be doppler on, 0' would be doppler off

Rollofffactor = how quickly the sound dropped off (loud to quiet). 1 would be sounds getting quieter as they receded from you etc, 0' would be no change

Distancefactor = distance at which the above are activated??????

None of which would make the planes louder only affect the way they sound as they fly by.???????

I turned all the settings to 0 and I couldn't tell a difference. But at least I can use EAX now without having weird problems.
BF2's sound department just isn't as KABOOOOM as DOD, CS, or COD is. Kinda sucks. I like having my battle sounds.
