This worked for me !!!

Go to Drivercleaner.net download driver cleaner.....

Add/remove programs..... Video Driver....

reboot.....F8 to get to save mode.... boot windows safe mode...

cancle out of found new hardware....

run driver cleaner ... from the drop down pick your video type ie: nvidia for me....

run it ... look at the results and see how much garbage was removed....

Reboot let windows reboot normally..... candel out of found new hardware. reinstall the 77.77 nvidia drivers... and you should be good to go...

Note this was causing lockups in BF2 but not Call of Duty... this would make it look like sound card because it would happen looked like when a new sound came up .. but also a new graphic....I would get the freeze that sounded like a fax/modem trying to connect .... This seemed to fix me right up .. I can play BF2 in 1600 x 1200 now no problems...

Yah.....this should be done every time you re-install or upgrade your graphics drivers (or really any drivers, but graphics most importantly).

hmmm of all the things i do ive never done this with new drivers, i shall do this first thing in the morning when i get off work.

It looked like a sound card issue to me at first until I was able to back the settings on BF2 down to 800x600 no aa no filtering and play for several hours.. then when I upped the rez to 1024x768 it would die in about 30 min....
SO that told me rez...=...graphics card....So I called BFG 24 hr tech support and the person who answered stayed on the line for about 20 to 30 min with me until he walked me through the entire process...and it worked. So I thought I would pass it along ... since he menthined that was the single most problem that they encounter with their products.. its Nvidia's legacy problem from previous drivers... I know ATI has that problem as well.. since my last...err other card is an ATI...(still use that machine for video processing)...
Everyone with a viedo card should at least consider this possibility if they are having trouble... I didn't realize the legacy junk left behind by the driver install untill I checked the "show details" button.

Wow. I was having crash problems also. About 5 min into each map my whole system would lock. THIS FIXED IT! Thanks for the post. Should spread the word better. Doesnt look like many people are looking at this thread.
