would 1.5gb cut it?

i currently have a gig of ramPC3200(DDR400)(2x512mb) in dual channel...

i have 1 more slot left and was thinking about putting a nother stick of 512 in it... would that cut it for running everything on high?

i could also put a gig stick in my extra slot... if you can do that...(feels like a noob for not knowing)

Well I just went from 1GB to 1.5GB and I still can't run with textures on high. Everything else is on high though with 16xAF and 4xAA. It is a LOT better I must admit but I still get slight stuttering especially when turning quick and I can't deal with it so I turned textures to medium. Drops out of the game better on exit and loads quite a bit quicker now though. I'm thinking myself about going to 2GB now as very occasionaly I'm hitting 1.5GB usage.

If you got the cash I'd just go straight to 2GB. It will hold you in good stead for upcoming games as well. FEAR for instance seems to be a bit of a memory hog.

Note , if you have a AMD64 rig , some of them don´t like mixing different sizes of ram ie: 2x512 + 1Gb
it´s better to got to 2x 1Gb

He has clearly said that he can only fit in another 512MB module. To go 2x1GB he would need a new boaud and probably a new proc too.

~US~Riggs- if you add another 512MB module then your 2 existing 512MB DIMMS will not run in dual channel. I'd leave it as it is personally and concentrate on a full system upgrade in the bear future.

i dont think a full system upgrade will happen too soon... ill be 16 in not to long and im tryin to save for a car so... its only bottle necking at the RAM because when i run the game CPU useage is amazingly not at 100perc all the time, and i have seen ppl with my videocard(128meg 256bit) getting 60-80fps and the only diff in specs is they have more ram.

for the time being i have put the textures down to med seem to help some but not a whole lot.

I don't think he said that at all. Why can't he put another 1GB stick in? Dual channel gives you about 5% performance boost at best. He would probably such a much bigger increase from the extra RAM alone.

Also what's wrong with him selling his existing RAM to buy 2x1GB sticks.

2x1GB is pretty expencive considering im a kid... my existing ram(2x512) is about 87bucks on newegg... 2x1GB is 208 bucks atm...

Stick 512MB in then. It's better definately. You might want to see what the 1.3 patch brings though. They may tidy things up so it doesn't use much RAM. I doubt it but you never know.

I have an Nforce 2 board and did the same thing. I went from 2 sticks of 512MB PC3200 to 3 sticks. There are only three slots - same as yours. Everything runs a lot better with 1.5 GB.


I just went back to Newegg, looked at my old purchases and picked up the exact same Corsair module.

i should just get a gig stick so i would have 2gigs then i shouldetn have to upgrade for a wail... hopefully most games wont go beyond 2 gigs of ram in the near future...
