Idea for upcomming patch (Regarding commander)

I was thinking, perhaps Dice/EA should implement a system where if a team mate walks into the artillery area once its announced they will get a suicide penalty for the asshat who ran into it. If a team mates already in the area when its announced it should count as a regular TK for the commander.

This way it would prevent dumbasses who run into the artillery area from deducting commander points from the commander.

Good idea. Also I think they should deduct points JUST for BEING an asshat. Maybe give us points or assists for spotting an asshat in the Comrose. Maybe add a few asshat ribbons & awards to the BFHQ stats. Rock on!

You're still thinking in terms of TK's being accidental. What if a griefer were the commander and he used artillery against his own guys deliberately, and announced it? He'd TK them all and get them all punished, too.

I know that originally, the "punish" feature was designed so that you could get rid of intentional tk'ers while forgiving accidents. But of course people get angry when they're tk'd, so they just punish everyone.

I completely disagree. A sucidie counts for a -2 point penalty. What happens when you get a corrupt commander?

The commander sees a huge collection of your team, he drops artillery. Or he drops artillery on all those waiting at the airfield for the plane/heli to spawn. BANG, they all lose points, and he loses nothing.

You must ALWAYS consider every aspect of something like this.

bad, bad idea, perfect for selfish commander. Why?

so you have two squad of people, fighting with one squad of enemy, you almost got a point.

but your commander decides that he can get more points by dropping artillery on two squads, bang, squads are gone, so is the flag.

No I agree, look at what he said. If the commander places artillery and there is anyone in the circle when he places it and they die, then it is a teamkill. But if someone runs into the artillery circle after it is placed and dies, then it is a suicide. Makes Team Killing kind of hard without being punished.

That's actually a good reason FOR giving out punishment points to the people who die in the arty strike. If you have 6-7 people standing around waiting for a single plane to spawn, instead of getting into action and doing some good for the team, they deserve to be hit with artillery and they should get some negative points for making the commander waste and arty strike on them just to get them out of the hangar and into actual combat.

LOL, the best thing to do is spawn of the carrier and blow up all the planes, then every one spawns but dosent have a plane then you tell the enemy commader to arty the carrier...
jump of the ship and watch 10 of your teammates die and curse at you but not able to do anything about it

i feel the current setup is pretty stupid. the commander SHOULDN'T be punished cause some moron was so stupid that not only did he enter the area that was about to be hit, but he then was also too dumb to leave. its similiar to the situation with mines for us engies - there is a big glowing skull over friendly mines, yet people still drive over them AND punish us!

of the options i can think of, i think the 'do nothing' choice is the best among the simplest options. the commander shouldn't be punished for hitting people who were too dumb to either take cover or leave (that warning thing is around for a while). in the meantime, teammates can avoid getting shelled simply by, oh i don't know... maybe they could, hmmmm.... well, they could potentially leave when they see the arty strike is inbound??? i think there is almost always enough time to run away. and i don't think the dead teammate should get punished. why would you want to punish him? he's already gotten himself killed. other then being oblivious, he didn't do anything wrong (assuming the commander no longer has a penalty)

i understand concerns about abusive commanders, but to that i say "there is nothing forcing you to stick around in the arty zone." the arty really takes a while to actually start landing. if the developer's would implement it (which i highly doubt they would), they could fix some of the abusive commander sitations by designating certain areas (ie aircraft carriers) 'home zones' that the commander can't drop arty strikes onto (or at least he can be punished with a tk if he kills a teammate).

i'll end by saying that one idea i particularly liked is to just give commanders (and engies when using mines) sort of a "tk buffer" such that they can be punished for a tk only if they've killed several teammates recently. accidents do happen, but killing several teammates is unexceptable. so maybe tking a guy normally adds 5 to the buffer. if the guy was already in the middle of the zone when the arty was called down (so it was on top of the guy) maybe that increases it to 10. if the same arty strike kills multiple enemies (meaning the commander had a legitimate reason to call down a risky arty) then the penalty is decreased by a certain factor. if the buffer gets above 20, the commander can get punished for tks. every minute, the buffer goes down by 1. a little more complicated, but it gives the commander some flexibility to make mistakes & be aggressive without worrying about (oh god i can't kill those 10 enemies cause we have one moron in the vicinity) while preventing massive abuse (bombing your own carrier)

oh, and maybe like with mines, the warning for the arty should be a little more obvious. i know, i know, it's already pretty hard to miss. but judging by the people who get killed with these things, perhaps they just need to be slapped in the face a little harder

If you run into arty at least 5 seconds after it's called you should just be dead. No penalty to either party.

How many times have you seen a commander arty a grey flag when 2-3 friendlies are close enough to get to the flag before it is capped? Not to mention the arty isn't going to make it anyways.

And to be truthful I have intentionally ran into arty on a grey flag because I knew I could take it and the very noobish commander has no clue what he is doing. TK punish for him. Hopefully that will teach them when to do arty.

Lol sorry some you guys you didn't understand:

                              Here is what I'm proposing:

                              1. If a commander declares an artillery strike anyone outside of the affected area that walks into it and gets killed DOESN'T count as TK for the commander, but rather a suicide point on them. This way they'll learn not to run into artillery strikes.

                              2. If a commander declares an artiller strike and anyone inside of the affected area that dies COUNTS as a TK for the commander.

I'm sorry if I didn't clarify it. You had me confused.
