    Please help: Driver issue?

Here is a warning to EVERYBODY: If it aint broke, don't fix it.

I was in the mood this morning to upgrade. I checked out the Catalyst 5.7 drivers and saw that it gave a huge performance increase with 128MB cards. Cool, I thought. I could use it. I downloaded them, uninstalled my old drivers, ran Cab Cleaner + Driver Cleaner (ATI, ATI CCC, and ATI Uninstall Utility.) Installed Catalyst 5.7 and there was texture corruption in Battlefield 2 *EVERYWHERE!* Everything was blinking black, multicolored corruption.. egh. I promptly unstalled Cat 5.7 and reinstalled 5.6. Texture corruption was fixed butthe FPS stuttered badly. I then remembered I had Cat 5.4 installed, not 5.6. So, I uninstalled 5.6 and reinstalled 5.4.

Well, the stuttering in Battlefield 2 is still here. Before, it was silky smooth 40+ FPS. It's now around 30ish FPS, but now when I am flying a jet in, say, Gulf of Oman, I switch to a view behind me it will stutter for a few seconds or simply stop for about two seconds, if I bomb my FPS will drop to about 5 FPS for a good 10 seconds. Same settings, nothing changed.

It seems almost like its stuttering when theres particles. For an example: bombs. When I fire an Anti-Tank rocket, the smoke drops it to about 2 FPS until the smoke clears. The explosion of C4 does the same thing.

Damnit! And to just think it was working perfectly fine a few hours ago -_- Please help my **** up. I don't have the time to format right now and I'm leaving on vacation in a few days and I'd really like a good hour or two before I leave.

I'm using XP Pro SP1. I also tried to delete all the Shader Cache and let it recreate them. Didn't make a difference.

    Thank you.

Like I said, I didn't change anything. All ingame settings are correct; all driver settings were the same as before. AGP Aperture still at 128MB like before. Fastwrites off like usual.. texture settings on all the highest quality, just like always.

      System specifications in my signature.

Joe, I don't keep System Restore enabled.

          Anyway... FIXED!
I knew the original drivers I had were early 5 series and that the Omega Driver had an "a" rivision. So, I assumed it was 2.6.25a - Catalyst 5.3. After many hours of frustration, I finally remembered something. No, it can't be 5.3. The driver set was right after 5.0 were released - ah - Catalyst 5.1. Omega Driver 2.6.05a. BINGO!

All stuttering problems fixed, silky smooth. So, here's a word to everybody:

If you have stuttering problems and use an ATI Radeon, try the Omega Drivers 2.6.05a (Based on Catalyst 5.1) or the Official ATI Catalyst 5.1 drivers.

Thanks to everybody who tried to help. :)
